Job summary

Relativity Space seeks a technical lead and responsible engineer for a wideband UHF shallow radar sounder on a Mars orbiter mission. You will own the instrument from design through spacecraft integration, calibration, and commissioning with no mid-stream hand-offs.

The role includes system design of radar electronics, signal processing, and antenna systems; waveform studies; hardware development; calibration; and coordinating across RF, digital, power, and mechanical domains.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in electrical hardware development, such as software defined radios, radar transceivers, or sophisticated digital processors.
• Experience with radar system performance budgets and radar returns modeling.
• Experience implementing radio or radar transceivers as software-defined radios.
• Field or spaceflight testing with radar/transceiver hardware.

Responsibilities

• Own the system design for radar electronics, signal chain, and antennas for sounder and radiometer modes.
• Lead waveform studies and co-design with science team to meet mission objectives.
• Lead hardware development, prototyping, and validation ahead of flight designs.
• Define calibration schemes for radar and radiometer modes.
• Coordinate cross-discipline hardware, firmware, and software development.
• Lead instrument qualification, spacecraft integration, and flight testing.
• Perform spectrum licensing and frequency coordination for operation.
