Title: Marketing Research & Strategy Manager, Comm. & Mus
Description: We’re looking for a marketing research and strategy manager (marketing manager) to join our collaborative college marketing group. The marketing manager is primarily responsible for developing and implementing strategic and creative marketing plans for books and media in their disciplines. This role will primarily work on our Communication and Music lists.
Marketing managers capture, engage, and nurture leads, track campaign results, and monitor the sales pipeline. They work extensively in our CRM and marketing automation platform.
An ideal candidate will be an excellent writer and collaborator, highly creative, analytical, and organized. They should be able to juggle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, turn ideas into action, and regularly assess the efficacy of their campaigns and adjust as necessary. This position requires a person who thrives when working on a team but who is also a self-starter who takes initiative and full ownership over their projects. The person will work closely with their sales and market development specialist counterparts and their fellow colleagues in the marketing manager role. There may be variation in the disciplines that marketing managers work on each year, so candidates must be flexible and skilled at pivoting when needed.
This is a remote position.
Job Responsibilities Include:
Create content and host events to help with lead generation, such as workshops with authors, webinars with Norton employees, events with faculty advocates, marketing landing pages, and a small handful of blog posts per year
Design and execute comprehensive email marketing strategies that bring MQLs (Marketing Qualified Leads) to the sales team
Track ROI of marketing activities and regularly analyze efficacy of campaigns, adjusting when appropriate
Develop creative prepublication marketing campaigns, track all reviewers and prospects, and revise messaging as needed
Collaborate with editorial teams on messaging and strategy for books and media
Work with members of multiple different teams on complex projects to gather necessary information, assets, buy-in, and final approval
Attend academic conferences and organize events to drive booth traffic and increase engagement with instructors
Visit campuses clustered around academic conferences and meet with professors to do pre-publication research
Write copy for select pieces of marketing collateral
Design and administer surveys for market development and recently published books and media
Work with advertising team on all advertising-related projects (print pieces, online ads, videos, website copy, etc.) to shepherd projects from ideation to completion in a timely manner
Present at internal sales conferences twice annually
Requirements: Desired Qualifications:
Collaborative and enjoy working on a team.
Organized, responsive, and detail-oriented, making sure that all aspects of daily activities are handled with accuracy and minimal mistakes.
Analytical and able assess efficacy of marketing activities.
Highly disciplined, self-motivated, and able to effectively and accurately prioritize tasks and projects
Willing and able to travel several times per year (1-3 times per quarter) throughout the United States and Canada. Travel includes attending academic conferences, meetings with instructors on college campuses, marketing meetings at Norton’s headquarters in New York, and Norton sales conferences.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree.
Preferably 3 years of proven experience in marketing or higher education publishing sales
The ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize.
Superior verbal and written communications.
Employment eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
Must be able to work full business hours
Compensation and Benefits*
Currently available benefits include:
Annual compensation for this position is $70,000-95,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
