Position Overview

Reporting to the Marketing Accounting Director and based in Houston, Texas, the Marketing Marine Accounting Supervisor will hold a highly visible position within the company. The role involves assisting the Accounting Director in executing accurate and timely accounting reports and tasks.

The Marketing Marine Accounting Supervisor will build an established team responsible for managing daily volume actualizations and general accounting processes for the marketing businesses in the United States.

We seek an experienced candidate with strong interpersonal skills who is a hands-on leader. The candidate should be highly organized to lead a team in meeting deadlines and technologically savvy to advise on financial accounting system design requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, train, and develop a team of 3+ staff specializing in crude marine volume actualizations and settlements.
  • Cultivate a strong team culture promoting collaboration and cross-training.
  • Oversee volume actualizations and settlements for all crude marine activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Reconcile payable invoices with the trading system and ensure timely payments.
  • Ensure sales invoices are sent promptly to receive cash on time.
  • Research and resolve volume discrepancies.
  • Review monthly/daily cash forecasts and identify improvements for a 3-month forecast accuracy.
  • Provide working capital variance explanations to treasury weekly or as needed.
  • Assist in researching and settling aged receivables and payables.
  • Perform month-end closing procedures and submit reports on schedule.
  • Analyze inventory and explain volumetric variances compared to forecasts.
  • Review, approve, and understand account reconciliations, addressing reconciling items promptly.
  • Collaborate with the financial analysis team for balance sheet and income statement analysis.
  • Prepare and post recurring, standard, and adjusting journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Create measurable metrics to hold staff accountable.
  • Assist with ad hoc reports and special projects, including system implementations (e.g., Allegro 8, SAP).
  • Support audit and tax requests from internal and external teams.
  • Manage relationships with front office, mid office, credit, and treasury teams.
Qualifications - External

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance with at least 21 hours of accounting coursework.
  • 10+ years of experience in the Energy Marketing industry.
  • 5+ years of relevant marine and/or crude-specific experience as a Volume Actualizations or Settlements Supervisor.
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage, motivate, and develop a large team.
  • Efficient task delegation and work management skills.
  • Positive attitude and resilience under adversity.
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to assist others.

  • Experience with trading systems, with Allegro 8 experience a plus.
  • Overtime may be required during critical periods.
