WHY THIS MARKETING ROLE IS DIFFERENT

This role sits at the intersection of business development strategy and marketing execution, working with the Firm's senior leadership to identify opportunities, win new business, work on pitches and proposals, and shape how Berger Montague tells its story. This is a chance to build. You will develop the Firm’s pitch and proposal function, sharpen its competitive positioning, and grow into a leadership role within the marketing department.

ABOUT BERGER MONTAGUE

Berger Montague is one of the nation’s preeminent law firms focusing on complex civil litigation, class actions, and mass torts in federal and state courts throughout the United States. With more than $2.4 billion in 2025 post-trial judgments alone, the Firm is a leader in the fields of complex litigation, antitrust, consumer protection, defective products, environmental law, employment law, securities, and whistleblower cases, among many other practice areas. For over 55 years, Berger Montague has played leading roles in precedent-setting cases and has recovered over $50 billion for its clients and the classes they have represented. Berger Montague is headquartered in Philadelphia and has offices in Chicago; Malvern, PA; Minneapolis; San Diego; San Francisco; Toronto, Canada; Washington, DC, and Wilmington, DE.

THE MARKETING DEPARTMENT

This Marketing Department is responsible for Berger Montague’s branding, messaging, marketing, and advertising. Utilizing a consistent message in the Firm’s voice is critical to continuing to build and refine our brand and recognition in the market, including but not limited to clients and potential clients, courts, judges, attorneys, and the public. The Marketing Department is responsible for how the Firm competes for new business and presents itself to its various audiences—from formal pitches and RFP responses to the Firm’s public profile and brand. This role will be central to that mission, with particular emphasis on business development strategy and execution.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Pitch & Proposal Development and Execution

  • Lead the development and execution of formal pitches, RFP responses, and proposals for new client engagements across the Firm’s practice areas, including antitrust, environmental, commercial litigation, securities, consumer protection, and other Firm practice areas.

  • Assist in identifying potential revenue opportunities for the Firm, including by monitoring and evaluating various sources for such opportunities.

  • Develop and maintain a library of pitch materials, capability statements, case studies, practice group profiles, and other Firm collateral that can be efficiently tailored for individual opportunities.

  • Coordinate with Department Chairs, attorneys, and professional staff to gather relevant case information, attorney credentials, and differentiators for inclusion in pitches and proposals.

  • Ensure submissions are delivered on time, on brand, and at the highest level of quality, with attention to detail.

Business Development Strategy

  • Develop and execute an annual business development plan in coordination with Firm leadership, identifying target audiences, industries, institutional clients, referral sources, and geographic markets aligned with the Firm's business.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities with referral counsel and co-counsel, institutional investors, pension funds, unions, governmental entities, and other entities that retain plaintiffs’ firms on a contingent basis.

  • Manage and grow the Firm’s pipeline of business development opportunities using and optimizing the Firm’s operating platform, maintaining accurate records of contacts, meetings, proposals, and outcomes, including building and maintaining a Firm referral network.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology, including AI, to advance the Firm’s marketing and business development efforts.

Marketing & Brand Management

  • Support the Firm’s existing marketing personnel to ensure execution of Firm Biography, website, awards submissions (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500), and thought leadership opportunities.

  • Oversee updates of the Firm website, internal and external newsletters, and social media presence.

  • Oversee marketing vendor relationships, including, pitch consultants.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Minimum 3-5 years of demonstrated successful experience in marketing and business development, ideally within a legal or professional services/corporate environment.

  • Demonstrated experience leading and winning formal pitches, RFP responses, and proposals.

  • Strong independent project management skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the judgment to tailor messaging for different audiences (for example attorneys, referral sources, and institutional clients).

  • Experience and comfort using data to track and report on pipeline and business development metrics.

  • Collaborative instincts and the ability to work effectively with attorneys, professional staff, and Firm leadership.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA in Marketing a plus.
