Base pay range

$40,000.00/yr - $45,000.00/yr

The Marketing & Communications Specialist serves an integral role in the external and internal operations of our entity- Oni Press, the groundbreaking publisher of multiple Eisner and Harvey-Award winning comics and graphic novels established in 1997. As a pivotal role in all marketing and communications initiatives for Oni, the Marketing & Communications Specialist is tasked with assisting in implementing bespoke marketing, advertising, and publicity initiatives that bring awareness to the individual titles that comprise the publisher’s slate of more than 60 titles per year, as well as linewide, brand-driven initiatives that highlight Oni’s unique voice in the arena of independent comics. Working hand-in-hand with Oni’s staff across multiple departments, as well as our award-winning array of creative talents, the Marketing & Communications Specialist has a critical role in the strategic positioning of projects from greenlight through to release and will be required to foster key relationships with creators, journalists, reviewers, advertising partners, and other stakeholders. Administrative duties for the Marketing & Sales department will also be required as needed, along with review and maintenance associated with metadata for the Oni-Lion Forge catalog of titles. Some travel and representing the company at industry events is required. Excellent communication, writing skills, deadline management, and organizational skills are a must. This is a remote position.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

● Utilizes and incorporates all available means (including, but not limited to) creative strategies, sales initiatives, publicity, social media, paid advertising, conventions and trade shows, reviews, and more into regimented plans to advance marketing initiatives for every Oni-Lion Forge release

● Tracks and interprets public reception for all Oni-Lion Forge titles to provide accurate reporting and updates to relevant stakeholders on the On-Lion Forge team

● Generates, collates, and accurately proofreads outgoing solicitation copy as needed for all external partners in compliance with the company's strict quality assurance standards

● Assists in production of B2B and public-facing advertising materials as needed, including (but not limited to) Diamond Previews catalog listings, house ads, preview pages, promotional items, and other materials as directed and in compliance with Oni-Lion Forge brand standards

● Assists in generation and distribution of Oni-Lion Forge preview pages, review copies, and solicitation data in a timely, reoccurring, and regimented manner as needed

● Assists in coordinating with counterparts in publicity and social media for a unified, holistic approach to all public communications

● Coordinates and ensures the Oni-Lion Forge website is up to date related to titles, events, and publicity

● Coordinates and ensures Oni-Lion Forge metadata is up to date as required and ensures accurate and timely metadata in delivered to our distributors, both in initial communication of new titles and updates to existing titles

● Understands and incorporates Oni-Lion Forge's distinct brand identity

● Ability to work and hit deadlines as directed

● Ability to provide timely, accurate, and informed communications

● Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree with 2 + years previous professional experience in marketing, communications, publicity and/or media, preferably with comics or graphic novels. Knowledge of and passion for the comic and graphic novel market is a must. Expertise in surveying the current marketplace for comics and graphic novels and working in creative, fast-paced environments preferred.

Language Skills: Must have excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to deliver effective and persuasive copywriting in a timely manner is a must.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Manage and prioritize simultaneously occurring projects, well-organized, self-motivated and strong attention to detail.

Technical Skills: Familiarity with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Creative Suite, AirTable, and Asana. Must be willing to adapt to new technologies and softwares as they are introduced and incorporated into workflows.

Travel: Ability to travel and work flexible hours.
