Job description

Job Summary

This position is based at our corporate office in Indianapolis, so candidates must live within commuting distance. The salary range is $65-$80K, and the role primarily provides marketing and communications support to the Goodwill Foundation, the organization’s fundraising arm.

Example Duties and Activities
  • Develop and execute marketing and communications strategies that support organizational goals across retail, mission services, education, foundation, commercial services, and corporate functions.
  • Serve as a strategic communications partner to leaders and stakeholders, providing counsel, recommendations, and solutions to support business and mission objectives.
  • Create and implement audience-centered communications plans, campaigns, and messaging strategies for internal and external audiences.
  • Lead storytelling efforts that elevate awareness of Goodwill’s impact, services, employees, students, families, donors, and community partners.
  • Develop, write, edit, and manage content for newsletters, websites, email communications, publications, advertising, presentations, events, and other marketing materials.
  • Manage and optimize social media, digital marketing, and web content strategies to support engagement, recruitment, fundraising, and business growth objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze communications, digital marketing, and web performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness and inform future strategies.
  • Support donor acquisition, donor retention, annual campaigns, special campaigns, events, and foundation communications initiatives.
  • Develop communications and marketing strategies that support participant recruitment, community outreach, and awareness for mission and education programs.
  • Support business development and marketing efforts for retail operations, commercial services, eCommerce, and other revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Coordinate media relations activities, including story development, pitching, responding to inquiries, and identifying opportunities to increase organizational visibility.
  • Support the planning, development, and production of the organization’s Annual Report and other major publications.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications team members to develop integrated campaigns, content, and communications opportunities across the organization.
  • Support organizational strategic initiatives, including the execution of Strategic Work Plans through communications planning and content development.
  • Manage, coach, and develop direct reports by providing regular feedback, performance support, and professional development opportunities.
Required Competencies

Degree and Credential Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field.

Demonstrates sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills when navigating competing demands and organizational needs.

Strategic Partner - Serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and stakeholders by aligning marketing and communications strategies with organizational priorities.

Understands business and mission objectives and translates them into effective communications approaches that engage target audiences and drive results.

Editing and Proofreading - Applies a high degree of detail attention related to the writing and review of one’s own or others’ written work.

Uses a critical eye in evaluating content, grammar, punctuation, etc.

Communicates clearly and tactfully with all team members any changes, suggestions, and directions for improvement.

Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend customers’ needs.

Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.

Planning and Prioritization - Manages competing demands by effectively organizing issues by relevance considering operational objectives and customer service excellence.

Excellent time management, planning scheduling, and coordination skills.

Ethical - Adheres to procedures and protocol, including maintaining confidentiality in passwords, logging on and off procedures, and adherence to Goodwill’s values.

Other Requirements
  • Background Screening - All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Driving - Must have a valid driver’s license, up-to-date auto insurance, and a good driving record.
  • Travel - Is willing to conduct local travel within the territory of Goodwill Legacy Group as needed for marketing support.
  • Event Support – Must be available to attend and assist with organizational and Foundation events as needed, including occasional events outside regular business hours.
