Overview

Why This Role Matters

Eli Lilly and Company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Lead to drive the strategic development, implementation, and optimization of our Marketing Cloud platforms. This role will be instrumental in leveraging cutting-edge marketing technologies to enhance customer engagement and support our global marketing initiatives, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.

What You Will Do
Technical Leadership & Team Guidance
  • Guide a team of Marketing Cloud developers and specialists through implementation challenges, setting technical direction, reviewing designs, and ensuring solutions are architecturally sound and aligned with best practices.
  • Provide deep subject matter expertise in SFMC architecture, platform capabilities, and emerging features, ensuring the team applies the right approach at every stage of delivery.
  • Conduct design and code reviews that elevate team output, to ensure work is done to the highest standard.
  • Oversee end-to-end technical delivery of Marketing Cloud implementations, holding the team accountable to data integrity, system performance, compliance, and quality.
  • Evaluate new SFMC features and releases, translating their potential into actionable recommendations for the team and stakeholders.
  • Define and enforce development standards, governance policies, and security protocols.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, including active adoption of AI tools to help the team work smarter and deliver faster.
  • Ensure the team maintains comprehensive technical documentation including architecture diagrams, design specifications, and operational procedures.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and actionable development plans aligned with IT strategy and marketing objectives.
  • Collaborate with marketing stakeholders to prioritize initiatives, develop requirements, and ensure solutions meet business objectives.
  • Lead technical design sessions and conduct design walkthroughs with both business and technical audiences.
  • Lead grooming workshops, provide level-of-effort estimates, and maintain clear communication of technical scope and timelines.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations proactively, surfacing risks, dependencies, and trade-offs before they become blockers.
  • Participate in vendor management and evaluation for related marketing technology solutions.
Your Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Salesforce Marketing Cloud development and architecture experience.
  • Experience in a Technical Lead or Senior Developer capacity with evidence of technical influence and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Hands-on experience in AMPscript, SSJS, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL within the Marketing Cloud environment.
  • Hands-on experience designing and supporting Marketing Cloud Connect implementations, including API integrations and data extensions that power cross-channel campaigns.
  • Experience applying data modeling, data architecture, and database concepts in a marketing context, including designing or maintaining marketing data structures for segmentation, targeting, or campaign execution.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud certification(s), such as Email Specialist, Consultant, Administrator, Developer, or Architect.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies, including user story creation and sprint grooming.
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.
Mindset & Ways of Working
  • AI enthusiasm and hands-on fluency — you actively use tools like Claude, ChatGPT, or similar LLMs to automate work, accelerate delivery, and solve problems faster. You don't wait for AI to become standard practice — you're already there.
  • Strong learning agility — you stay ahead of a fast-moving platform and proactively bring new knowledge into the team.
  • Proactive problem-solving — you identify issues early, involve the right stakeholders, and drive resolution without waiting to be asked.
  • Strong self-management — you operate independently, balance multiple priorities and shifting requirements, and hold yourself accountable to outcomes.
Communication & Influence
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills — you can translate complex technical concepts clearly for non-technical stakeholders at any level of the organization.
  • Ability to mentor and elevate others technically without formal management authority — you lead through expertise, trust, and example.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry is a plus.
