About Second Helpings
At Second Helpings, we envision a community where everyone has enough nourishing food and ample opportunities to thrive. Our mission is to address hunger today and build self-sufficiency to prevent hunger tomorrow.
Founded in 1998 by three chefs, Second Helpings remains true to its core mission while the ability to serve our community has continued to grow. To date we have rescued nearly 55 million pounds of food and distributed nearly 21 million meals through our 200 + area partners.
The Second Helpings building is a vibrant and active one, fostering a collaborative work environment. The organization relies on a steady and dedicated volunteer corps that is in the building during most open hours, and it sees present and former culinary job training students coming and going regularly. Food and food culture are ever-present.
This position serves as lead storyteller and is responsible for leading all of Second Helpings’ marketing and communications efforts through innovative content creation, consistency of voice, and effective project management to enhance Second Helpings’ image in the broader marketplace.
The Marketing & Communications Manager role is pivotal to the Second Helpings development team, working collaboratively throughout the year on projects to support annual operating funds and signature fundraising events like Tonic Ball, Corks & Forks and Giving Tuesday.
This manager also supervises the Multimedia Designer and any potential interns.
Additionally, this role works closely with our program staff to highlight and celebrate our community partnerships, recruit students for our Culinary Job Training program, and attract volunteers to support our mission.
A successful candidate will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
