Job description

You know how to make people stop scrolling. We have something worth stopping for.

If you are the person your friends ask to edit their videos, if you notice when a brand's captions are lazy, if you have opinions about hooks and pacing and which sound is already played out, this role was written for you.

IMPACTdmv is a Prince George's County nonprofit that helps young people get into college and into careers. Our students have earned more than $30 million in scholarships and intern at places most felt were out of reach. That story is real, and right now it is under-told. You will own how it gets told across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube.

This role is hybrid, and we want to be direct about it. Most of your week is remote and self-scheduled. But the best content we have ever made was made in the room: a student's face when the offer comes in, a club meeting or event, a packed workshop, a parent reaction at a showcase. You cannot pull that off a Zoom recording. We need you physically present at our events, camera in hand, including some weekday evenings and Saturday mornings.

What You'll Do

  • Publish 5–7 posts per week across five platforms — in practice 2–3 original pieces, smartly repurposed. One strong Reel becomes a TikTok and a YouTube Short.
  • Shoot and edit short-form video from program footage, events and student features. This is the heart of the role.
  • Cover IMPACTdmv events in person as needed. Workshops, club meetings, networking events, school visits, showcases. We publish the calendar in advance so you can plan around classes.
  • Write captions that sound like a person, not a press release, and that shift in tone from TikTok to LinkedIn.
  • Grow engagement, and know why it grew. Track performance, report on it, bring recommendations. We would rather hear an idea failed and why than watch it quietly disappear.
  • Maintain the content calendar so posting is planned, not panicked.
  • Protect our students. Follow media release and privacy rules carefully. Many of the people in our content are minors.

What You'll Walk Away With

A real portfolio of published work across five platforms with performance data attached; documented growth metrics you can cite in an interview; professional development; structured weekly mentorship with our Executive Director covering your work, your analytics and your career questions; introductions into our partner network of schools, council offices and corporate partners across the DMV; and creative ownership.

Who We're Looking For

Required:

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student
  • Demonstrated experience creating Reels and TikToks (personal accounts absolutely count)
  • Fluency across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube
  • Reliable internet
  • A phone or camera that shoots video, and your own editing setup (we provide access to tools like Canva and CapCut)
  • Strong writing and spelling
  • Dependability on a posting schedule
  • Reliable transportation and availability to travel to Prince George's County for events, including some evenings and Saturdays.

Preferred:

  • Studying marketing, communications, journalism, digital media or PR but a strong portfolio matters more than your major
  • CapCut proficiency (strongly preferred)
  • Experience with scheduling tools and platform analytics
  • Graphic design, photography or motion graphics ability
  • An account you have grown yourself
  • Connection to Prince George's County or the DMV.

The Details

Reports to: Executive Director and IMPACTnow President

Time commitment: 7-10 hours per week (about 30-40 hours per month), inclusive of event coverage. We manage to the monthly total, not the weekly one.

Stipend: $1,000 per semester, paid $250 per month over four months; second semester available by mutual agreement. Mileage for event travel is reimbursed at the current IRS rate.

Academic calendar: Finals, breaks and heavy course loads are expected and planned for. Tell us early and we adjust the content schedule!

Term: August 31, 2026 – December 18, 2026 (one semester, renewable)

How to Apply

Apply via LinkedIn, Handshake, or email info@impactdmv.org with the subject line “Marketing & Communications Intern — [Your Name]” and send: (1) your resume; (2) links to 2–3 pieces of content you made — a TikTok, a Reel, a carousel, an edit; it does not need to be professional work; (3) 5-7 sentences on why this work matters to you. Not a cover letter — just be real with us. Optional, and it will get our attention: pitch us one post idea for IMPACTdmv. Tell us the platform, the hook, and who it is meant to reach. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until filled.

IMPACTdmv is an equal opportunity employer. We strongly encourage students from the communities we serve to apply. If you are excited about this role but do not meet every preferred qualification, apply anyway.
