Job description

Team/Function Overview:

The Global Head of Market Operations Tech (MOT) production management role will oversee a large group of employee and contractor resources in locations across the globe. The head of MOT Production Management will play a crucial role in the organization's simplification efforts and will work closely with technology, business, and operations heads to support the Markets business goals and objectives. The role will be reporting directly to the Managing Director of Markets Production Management.

Role / Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated leader to oversee a fast-evolving Operations technology platform to support a growing markets business. The position will be leading a team of application support engineers responsible for improving the safety and soundness of Markets back-office systems including Cash products, OTC Derivatives, FX Settlement, and Margin. You will partner closely with the business and product managers to deliver a world-class Production Support team.

The Apps Support Sr Group Manager manages multiple teams through other managers. In-depth understanding of how own sub-function contributes to achieving the objectives of the function is necessary. A good understanding of the industry and direct competitors' products and services is also necessary to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business. Requires thorough understanding of the strategic direction of the function within the relevant part of the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/or area of expertise and related subject areas. Excellent communication skills are required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication/negotiation may be necessary. Responsible for executing functional strategy in the area managed. Determines approach to implementing functional strategy. Accountable for end results, budgeting, planning, policy formulation, and contribution to future strategy of the area(s). Impact reflects the size of the team managed, strategic influence on the business, and interaction with other functions or businesses. Full management responsibility for multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions, terminations, and budget approval. May be involved or responsible for diverse (cross-discipline) activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will oversee all aspects of the Market Operations production platforms including Cash, Derivatives, Margin, and other products.
  • Lead organization from traditional technology operations to an engineering culture.
  • Contribute to the design and development of system architecture and work with the end-users of the system. Deep dive on the architecture of existing systems to enhance the quality of the deliverables.
  • Vendor relationship management including oversight for all offshore managed service.
  • Improve the service level the team provides to our end users, which includes maximizing operational efficiencies, strengthening incident management, problem management, and knowledge sharing practices.
  • You will establish a strong culture of Cyber Security awareness and ownership across Markets Ops tech informing and preparing our teams to effectively respond to evolving Cyber Security threats.
  • You will lead the development teams on application stability and supportability improvements.
  • Work closely with infrastructure teams on improving the reliability and availability of the trading environment.
  • Formulate and implement a framework for managing capacity, throughput, and latency.
  • Define and implement application onboarding guidelines and standards.
  • Work with various team members on coaching them on how to maximize their potential, work better in a highly integrated team environment, and focus on bringing out their strengths.

Essential Knowledge/Experience:

  • 15+ years of experience working in a large organization including Markets Tech experience.
  • Previous experience working with stakeholders in Application Development and Infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams, or serving as a manager of managers.
  • Experience with modern observability tools.
  • Developing and implementing support tools.
  • Hands-on experience with financial products.
  • Understanding of problem management methodologies.
  • Ability to communicate well at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivating.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to objectively review and manage talent development.
  • Experience driving training and knowledge transfer workshops.
  • Recruiting and building a talent network.
  • Past management of business continuity and aiding in architectural design and assessment for critical batch and feed-oriented work streams.
  • Well-versed in trade completion/settlements solutions; understanding of front-to-back business/system processes.
  • Experience with deal attribution analysis.
  • Experience using ticketing software.

Additional Awareness of the Following Technologies:

  • Working experience with modern operating and enterprise databases.
  • Autosys or other Batch Scheduling systems.
  • Capacity Planning/Forecasting.
  • Storage platform performance/capacity analysis.
  • Knowledge of Network/Data analysis, troubleshooting.
