Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Market Grille Clerk in Fort Dodge, IA. You’ll deliver prompt, friendly service, take orders, prepare and replenish products, and ensure food safety and cleanliness in a fast-paced store kitchen.

You will handle POS transactions, assist co-workers, and support other store areas as needed. Training is provided with no formal education requirement.

Qualifications

• No education requirement; Hy-Vee provides training.
• Six months or less of related experience; prior food service is a plus.
• Good customer service mindset and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers with a smile and go the extra mile.
• Take customer orders at Market Grille and answer the telephone, assisting with product orders.
• Review daily orders, anticipate needs, and replenish products as necessary.
• Pull product from cooler/freezer to prepare for cooking and maintain adequate supply.
• Handle food safely and monitor freshness; maintain a sanitary work area.
• Operate the department register, process payments, and make change when needed.
• Assist with cleaning, trash removal, and dishwashing as required.
• Price and order products, delivering orders as needed; work as a team.

What You'll Do

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going the extra mile to make every visit a positive one
• Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, providing helpful service including taking product orders
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare and replenish product as necessary
• Pull product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for cooking and ensure an adequate food supply is ready and on hand
• Handle food safely and review the status and appearance of food for freshness at all times
• Maintain a clean, sanitary work area throughout your shift
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed
• Run the department register, receive payment, and make change where applicable
• Remove trash in a timely manner and wash dishes as necessary
• Price and order product and deliver orders as needed
• Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
• Report to work when scheduled and on time

Your Skills

• Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately

• Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Director; Market Grille Department Manager; Assistant Market Grille Department Manager; Service Managers

Education and Experience

No education requirement; we will provide all the training you need to succeed Six months or less of similar or related work experience; prior food service experience is a plus

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment

This role is performed in a store kitchen environment where things stay busy and engaging throughout your shift. You'll have exposure to noise, equipment movement, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
