Job summary

Hy-Vee Inc. in Pleasant Valley Township, IA, is seeking a Market Grille Clerk to deliver friendly, high‑quality customer service and accurate order fulfillment.

You will take orders at the Market Grille counter, answer phones, prep and replenish foods, handle POS transactions, and maintain a clean, safe work area while supporting teammates. Training is provided, no formal education required.

Qualifications

• No formal education required; Hy-Vee provides all training.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; prior food service experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going the extra mile to make every visit a positive one
• Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, providing helpful service including taking product orders
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare and replenish product as necessary
• Pull product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for cooking and ensure an adequate food supply is ready and on hand
• Handle food safely and review the status and appearance of food for freshness at all times
• Maintain a clean, sanitary work area throughout your shift
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed
• Run the department register, receive payment, and make change where applicable
• Remove trash in a timely manner and wash dishes as necessary
• Price and order product and deliver orders as needed
• Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
• Report to work when scheduled and on time

Education and Experience

No education requirement; we will provide all the training you need to succeed Six months or less of similar or related work experience; prior food service experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment

This role is performed in a store kitchen environment where things stay busy and engaging throughout your shift. You'll have exposure to noise, equipment movement, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
