Duties, Responsibilities & Other

A Market Executive for the Energy Distribution Engineering Market is responsible for the daily direction and performance of the business unit by managing the acquisition of work, production of the team and its output relative to the client contract requirements, Sector Business Plan, and long-term needs of the organization including financial performance. The Market Executive will have proven experience in team leadership including oversight of technical business unit directors or leaders. The individual in this role will excel in identifying, nurturing, and developing business opportunities, large team leadership development, a strong business acumen and a track record of leading and improving engineering organizations. This role involves developing and executing project/contract winning strategies and leading large business units comprising 50-500 team members.

The Market Executive will be responsible for profit and loss of the specific business unit, including all direct and non-direct overhead expenditures, measured annually with monthly progress reviews. This role requires in-depth understanding of specific technical elements related to electrical and natural gas energy distribution systems including voltage up to 69kV to the extent required to deliver quality and accurate job deliverables in accordance with the contract terms and conditions, industry standards, Company standards and specific site requirements. A successful candidate for this position will have a track record of managing organizations above 100 people or more delivering consulting engineering services for various utility clients throughout the eastern United States. This position will require strong leadership skills and discipline to maintain profitability while pushing the organization to grow its client base and geographical footprint.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Leading a team of technical managers, providing guidance and oversight to ensure successful project execution.
    • Recruiting, onboarding, and managing staff of technical and administrative personnel to build productive, quality-focused, and profitable teams.
    • Conducting regular progress reviews and performance evaluations.
    • Creating and fostering a culture of safe work performance at every level.
    • Create and foster an environment that supports and develops a high performing team with healthy accountability components as measured by established key performance indicators.
    • Making strategic staffing decisions to ensure optimal team performance and alignment with business objectives.
    • Engaging in team building activities to foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
    • Leading meetings and presenting progress updates to stakeholders.
  • Financial Accountability:
    • Overseeing the financial performance of the business unit, including profit and loss management and cost control.
    • Developing annual revenue and cost budgets.
    • Developing and implementing strategies to improve business performance and achieve company goals.
  • Business Development and Client Relations:
    • Identifying, recruiting, and developing business partners.
    • Driving business development efforts to identify and secure new opportunities.
    • Managing client development and relationship management.
    • Engaging in client development and relationship management.
  • Project and Technical Oversight:
    • Providing technical oversight to ensure projects meet industry, company, and client standards.
    • Conducting contract reviews and administration, as well as proposal development.
    • Ensuring compliance will all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures, maintaining high standards of ethical conduct and integrity.
    • Accountability to client specific performance and contract term compliance.
    • Serve as the responsible Professional Engineer on major projects.
  • Strategic Growth:
    • Develop and implement strategies to annually grow revenue and profit, expand client base, and enhance KCI's presence within the Market and across a nationwide footprint.
    • Collecting and reviewing business data and executing staffing changes to enhance team performance.
    • Contributing to long-term strategic planning for the business unit and the corporation.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to the Sector President on the Market's performance, challenges, and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience Required:
  • Associate's degree in related field (AEC Industry) and a minimum of 15 years of technical and leadership experience
  • Proven record of leadership success with recent experience in executive management or business unit leadership roles.
  • Exceptional strategic planning and execution skills, with the ability to drive growth and achieve KCI business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong financial acumen, with the ability to analyze financial data, develop budgets, and drive financial performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and decision-making skills to independently solve complex business issues.
  • In-depth knowledge of technical aspects of this industry and current trends.
  • Strong negotiation skills to manage contracts, partnerships, and client relations.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution managing and resolving disputes within teams and with clients.
  • Willingness to travel as needed within the designated region and occasionally nationally.
  • Active membership in relevant professional organization and industry groups.
Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (AEC Industry - ABET accredited institution) is preferred and requires a minimum of 7 years of technical and leadership experience.
  • A licensed Professional Engineer
  • PMP
  • Extensive training or experience in reviewing legal documents.
Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:
  • Client specific training as applicable
  • Successful completion of the KCI PM Training and Contract Training (for current employees) or the ability to complete within six months (for new hires)
