Job Summary

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee beverages and other hot and cold drinks to hotel guests in a friendly and efficient manner. You will ensure that all drinks are made to the highest standards, provide excellent customer service, and create a welcoming atmosphere in the hotel’s café or coffee shop. The Barista will also maintain cleanliness and organization of the coffee station, manage inventory, and work collaboratively with other staff to ensure efficient service and a positive guest experience.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Beverage Preparation & Service:
    • Prepare and serve a variety of coffee beverages, including espresso-based drinks, brewed coffee, tea, and other hot or cold beverages according to recipes and guest preferences.
    • Greet guests in a friendly and professional manner, taking drink orders and answering questions about beverages, menu items, and preparation methods.
    • Ensure all beverages are prepared quickly, accurately, and to the highest quality standards.
    • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the coffee station, including the espresso machine, grinders, and other equipment.
    • Customize beverages based on guest preferences, such as milk alternatives, sweetness levels, or specific flavors.
  • Create a positive, welcoming environment for guests by engaging with them and making personalized drink recommendations when appropriate.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by being attentive to guest needs and ensuring they have a great experience.
  • Handle guest questions, concerns, or special requests in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Upsell additional menu items, such as pastries, snacks, or special coffee blends, to increase sales and enhance the guest experience.
  • Address any guest complaints or issues quickly and professionally, seeking assistance from management when necessary.
  • Coffee Station & Equipment Maintenance:
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked coffee station, including ensuring an adequate supply of coffee beans, milk, syrups, cups, and other necessary ingredients.
    • Regularly clean and maintain coffee equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and drip coffee makers, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
    • Follow health and safety regulations regarding food handling and cleanliness in the coffee area.
    • Monitor inventory levels, assist with ordering supplies, and report any equipment malfunctions to management.
  • Work closely with other baristas, servers, and hotel staff to ensure smooth and efficient service during busy periods.
  • Assist in opening and closing the café or coffee station, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and that the area is prepared for the next service.
  • Help train new baristas by sharing knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, menu offerings, and customer service practices.
  • Support colleagues with tasks as needed to ensure a positive team environment.
  • Cash Handling & Transactions:
    • Process payments for beverages and food items, ensuring accurate and timely transactions.
    • Handle cash, credit card payments, and tips, adhering to proper cash handling procedures.
    • Provide guests with accurate receipts and change, maintaining a balanced cash drawer throughout the shift.
Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience as a barista or in a customer service role, preferably in a café or hospitality environment.
  • Knowledge of coffee brewing methods, espresso drinks, and basic beverage preparation techniques.
  • Barista certification or training in coffee preparation is a plus but not required.
Skills/Specialized Knowledge
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to create a welcoming and positive experience for guests.
  • Knowledge of various coffee beverages, milk alternatives, and preparation methods.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and work under pressure, particularly during peak service hours.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with guests and team members.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in managing inventory and maintaining cleanliness.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand and move around the restaurant for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, including boxes of coffee beans, milk, or supplies.
  • Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment, especially during busy service hours.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, reach, and stoop to restock supplies or retrieve items.
