Job summary

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems in Charlottesville, VA, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the Maritime Systems & Integration (MS&I) E&S organization and serve as the Charlottesville E&S Site Lead. You will oversee a distributed engineering team handling hardware/software development, production support, and shipboard integration for Navy/USCG programs.

The role demands exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, strong technical acumen, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, a Master's degree with 6 years of experience or a PhD with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.
  • U.S. Citizen with an active Government Secret Clearance
  • 3 years of professional experience in the defense or aerospace industries
  • 2 years demonstrated success managing technical teams
  • 2 years of experience working in a technical role
  • Proven experience as a team player and collaborator
  • Very strong engineering background with demonstrated experience managing through requirements development, design and production
  • Solid understanding of engineering process with execution experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of the program(s) technical roadmap strategy
  • Staff appropriately and enable resource sharing across multiple business areas
  • Lead strategic actions to improve the business of engineering
  • Drive engineering strategy and practices pertinent to the MS&I E&S organization, including but not limited to investments and talent strategy
  • Drive key talent development and workforce planning efforts
  • Elevate engineering rigor
  • Drive predictable financial and program results
  • Prioritize engineering investments aligned with strategic imperatives
  • Demonstrate thought leadership on digital transformation
  • Candidates must have exceptional leadership and teambuilding skills, strategic thinking, strong technical acumen, and the ability to lead multiple engineering disciplines across programs. The candidate will work with cross-discipline team members and therefore must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation experience and the demonstrated ability to work seamlessly with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the organization. The candidate must have the ability to build consensus and resolve conflict. The candidate must collaborate with business area leadership, and other functional partners to resolve complex issues in a timely manner to help meet program commitments.
