Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Maritime Security Specialist – Boat Operator / Maintainer to join our security team in Merritt Island, FL. You will safely operate vessels, perform maintenance, and coordinate security duties near Cape Canaveral during launch operations.

The role requires rising to challenges with strong communication, situational awareness, and reporting. You’ll engage with maritime partners, prepare documents, and support transport of flight hardware as needed.

Qualifications

• Boat operator experience or capability to safely operate a vessel near port/sea environment.
• Experience communicating via VHF radio and maritime channels.
• Understanding of maritime security concepts and awareness.
• Ability to draft reports, meeting notes, and other documents.
• Maintenance or basic repair capabilities for security vessels and related gear.

Responsibilities

• Operate and navigate security vessels near Cape Canaveral and during port activities.
• Conduct basic maintenance and repairs of Blue Origin security vessels and equipment.
• Communicate with maritime community via VHF marine radio; inform launch hazard areas.
• Track vessels using radar/AIS to monitor proximity to hazard zones.
• Coordinate and conduct security tasks and support the landing platform vessel operations.
• Prepare reports and project documents; engage with port maritime meetings to explain exclusion zones.

We are in search of a positive, high energy, motivated individual to fulfill a Maritime Security Specialist role and become an integral part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team. The successful candidate will join our team of security professionals. The Maritime Security team is responsible for supporting all near-shore and port area security needs of New Glenn launch, landing platform vessel return to port and dock-side offload safety and security requirements. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work independently, be highly technically ambitious, resolve unforeseen situations efficiently and with common sense, and have excellent communication and organizational skills.

The Maritime Security Specialist – Boat Operator / Maintainer Will Coordinate And Complete Maritime Security Tasks, Including But Not Limited To

• Perform as a boat operator; safely operate and navigate a vessel in the vicinity off Cape Canaveral and in the port during various environmental conditions.
• Conduct basic maintenance and repair of Blue Origin Security Vessels, trailers, and respective equipment and ensure their readiness for use.
• Effectively and respectfully communicate to the maritime community in person and via VHF marine radio to inform them of launch hazard areas
• Track vessels utilizing radar, AIS, or other navigation equipment to determine their proximity to hazard areas.
• Operate a truck with a trailer to launch and recover Blue Origin Security Vessels
• Conduct tender craft duties and support needs of the landing platform vessel.
• Liaise with maritime partner agencies and assist in pre-mission maritime domain awareness assessments.
• As needed, conduct sea surveillance of hazard areas utilizing land-based radar system and communicate to vessels via VHF marine radio
• Create, draft, edit, and prepare reports, project meeting notes, presentations, spreadsheets, and documents.
• Engage with the local boating community and attend port maritime meetings to explain our exclusionary zones to improve and minimize future at-sea interactions.
• Contribute to New Glenn program success by providing general operations support and accomplishing related duties on an as needed basis.
• Support strategic transports of flight hardware between facilities.
