Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD, seeks a Navigation Analyst to advance inertial navigation for Navy platforms. You will model navigation errors, derive physics-based relationships, and implement rigorous simulations to evaluate performance and assist decision-making.

Candidates should have at least 3 years of modeling experience, proficiency with MATLAB or Python, and the ability to obtain US security clearances. Travel to Navy facilities is expected occasionally.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or similar technical field.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing and using mathematical or physics-based models.
  • Experience with Kalman filters or modern system estimation methods.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or Python.
  • Ability to obtain US security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Master the mathematical models governing inertial navigation systems used by the US Navy.
  • Derive physics-based models for how supports interact with the inertial system.
  • Implement these models in software to analyze system performance.
  • Assess fidelity and communicate conclusions to decision-makers.
