Job summary

Leidos Undersea Systems Division (USD) at NIWC Pacific is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support maritime technologies and manage configuration control and TEMPALT packages for Navy platforms. The role blends detailed engineering with shipboard documentation and on-site integration support.

Requires a BS in Mechanical/Marine/Naval Engineering and 2–5+ years in mechanical design or configuration control, with Solid Edge proficiency and the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related field.
• 2–5+ years in mechanical design, structural integration, or configuration control.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (Solid Edge preferred).
• Strong understanding of ANSI/EIA-649 configuration management and workflows.
• Basic structural/mechanical calculations (stress, CG, loads).
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to interface with shipyard personnel and Navy officials.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain DoD Secret security clearance (Top Secret preferred).

Responsibilities

• Baseline management: maintain system baseline configurations, drawings, and documentation across multiple systems.
• Engineering change control: review drawings, 3D models, and specifications for standards compliance.
• Manage ECOs and deviations through review boards and lifecycle documentation.
• Audit support: track hardware revisions and ensure digital models match physical systems.
• Collaborate across disciplines to ensure configuration traceability.
• TEMPALT packet generation and shipboard installation package reviews.
• Develop installation instructions, safety briefs, drawing packages, and testing procedures.
• Conduct ship checks and on-site support during TEMPALT execution and commissioning.
• Coordinate with Navy program offices and ship command staff for approvals and risk management.
