Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a Marine Police Officer for the Marine Resources Commission in Virginia. The position is a Law Enforcement Officer II with a starting hiring range around $50,000, requiring readiness for physically demanding duties on vessels, inspections, and homeland security assignments.

Duty includes issuing summonses, operating patrol cars, conducting dockside checks, and flexible seven-day rotations.

Qualifications

• Law enforcement certification is desired but not required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be eligible for a Virginia driver's license.
• Ability to communicate with a diverse population.
• Ability to interpret and apply policy/regulations to make sound decisions.
• Ability to complete reports and files.
• Familiarity with Virginia waters and boating.

Responsibilities

• Issue summonses and make appearances in court;
• Serve on major vessels and operate radio-equipped patrol cars;
• Performs dockside inspections and boards commercial and recreational boats;
• Special assignments involving homeland security or undercover observation;
• Variable work schedules to include seven (7) days a week with rotating shifts;
• Non-certified hires will be required to attend the Law Enforcement Academy.
