The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks an Electrical Engineer focused on rapid prototyping to design, build, and test advanced shipboard electronics for national security missions. Qualifications include a BS in Electrical Engineering (MS preferred), 7+ years in electrical design and testing, PCB design in Altium, and hands-on lab instrumentation.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in the design, assembly, and testing of electrical systems.
  • Experience with PCB design and PCB design tools (Altium Designer).
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (e.g., spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, power supplies).
  • Experience solving custom hardware at the component and circuit level.
  • Willing to work periodically on U.S. Navy vessels and travel CONUS.

Responsibilities

  • Create novel, custom solutions to unique challenges while advancing maritime electronics.
  • Develop maritime electrical systems with analog, digital, and RF design for rapid fielding.
  • Perform testing and design verification for systems in lab and on Navy platforms.
  • Document designs and technical reports to support electrical integration on maritime platforms.
  • Develop emerging technologies and prototypes to evaluate new capabilities.
