Job summary

Freeman Boatworks in Moncks Corner, SC is seeking an Engineering Technician to bridge the gap between design and production on high-performance offshore catamarans. This hands-on role combines installation, testing, and troubleshooting on the shop floor and during sea trials to ensure quality and reliability.

You will collaborate with engineers to implement design changes, collect data, and document results for ECNs and SOPs.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on marine technician work or related field.
• Experience operating, maneuvering, and trailering multi-engine center console boats offshore.
• Proficient in marine mechanical systems, outboard engine setup, hydraulics, fuel systems, and electrical diagnostics (NMEA 2000, ABYC).
• Fabrication experience with fiberglass/composites, marine hardware installation, power tools, and shop equipment.
• Ability to translate technical concepts to shop technicians and communicate floor challenges to design engineers.
• Able to work on feet in a manufacturing shop, lift 50+ lbs, and work in outdoor marine environments.

Responsibilities

• Assembly Line Liaison: main technical contact on the production floor to interpret drawings and implement design changes.
• Hands-On Marine Assembly & Repair: assemble, install, retrofit, and repair on high-performance catamarans during builds and production.
• Process Improvement & Troubleshooting: identify bottlenecks and defects; partner with engineers to develop shop-floor solutions.
• Testing & Data Collection: rig, test, and troubleshoot marine systems including engines, helm electronics, electrical systems, plumbing, and steering.
• Feedback & Documentation: document engineering feedback and test results to update ECNs and SOPs.
