Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a marine surveyor inspecting cargo.
  • Ability to provide written reports on the cause of loss.
  • Experience in overseeing loading and unloading of cargo.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees loading and unloading of cargo to document damages.
  • Inspects damaged ships to determine cause and extent of damage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and supports quality programs.

Marine Surveyor, Cargo (Chicago, IL)

ARE YOU AN IDEAL CANDIDATE? If you have 5+ years of experience as a marine surveyor, inspecting cargo damaged in transit and determining the nature, cause, timing, and extent of the damages, and providing written reports to underwriters and other parties with your opinion on the cause of loss, we are looking for someone with your level of expertise!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS And RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees loading and unloading of cargo from ships and other forms of transit to document damages as they are loaded and/or unloaded.
  • Inspects damaged ships to determine cause of the damage and amount of damage resulting from collisions or motor failures.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS And RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supports the organization's quality program(s).
  • Travels as required.

Qualifications

Education & Licensing

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

Experience

Five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
  • Good customer service skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to kneel, squat or bend.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in hot and/or cold weather conditions.
  • Have the ability to: climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, and reaching/working overhead.
  • Be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
  • Be able to drive up to 4 hours per day.
  • Must have continual use of manual dexterity

Auditory/Visual: Hearing, vision and talking

As required by law, Sedgwick provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in jurisdictions requiring pay transparency in job postings. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and cost of specific location. For the jurisdiction noted in this job posting only, the range of starting pay for this role is $80,000.00 to $100,000.00 USD annual salary. Commission eligible role. A comprehensive benefits package is offered including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, 401k and matching, PTO, disability and life insurance, employee assistance, flexible spending or health savings account, and other additional voluntary benefits.
