We are now seeking anExperiencedJourneymanMarine Painter/Blaster, who will work primarily in surface preparation and painting of marine vessels currently under production or as finishing work on major repair projects.

What You will Do

  • Perform duties associated with abrasive blasting operations for surface preparation of interior and exterior tanks, engine room and interior compartments and other sites as required by each project -- based upon specifications for each vessel.

  • Prepare coating materials by blasting, cleaning, preparing, masking and mixing in various additives such as two- or three-part paints for:

    • tanks,

    • voids,

    • bilges,

    • passageways,

    • machinery/propulsion spaces,

    • interior bulkheads and

    • exterior surfaces

all with the proper applications with brushes or rollers, for the paint millage required by written technical direction.

  • Perform needle gunning, hand or mechanical sanding to prepare the surface for final painting.

  • Meet environmental requirements and best Shipyard practices in acquisition, application, removal and disposal of paint, paint waste or residuals in accordance with OSHA requirements and federal and state laws

  • Apply paint free of discontinuities such as holidays, runs, and drips.

  • Measure for, cut, and install needed insulation materials (taping and covering) for insulation systems.

  • Measure, cut, and apply vinyl stickers to hull and assemblies as required.

  • Work as a member of a team demonstrating skills to effectively communicate, adapt, interpret and problem solve.

  • Always embrace ESR safety culture and practice safe shipyard work practices and housekeeping

  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with fellow crew members and supervisors

  • Share your knowledge in the trade with other employees, especially those in learning or apprentice roles

  • Other tasks as needed that may arise in our exciting start-up work environment

Qualifications

What You Bring to Our Team

  • 4+ years’ experience as a Marine Painter
  • Ability to perform full range of skills required for journeymen in the paint trade, including both the blasting and spraying from start to finish with little supervision
  • Awareness of and respect for regulatory standards (SOLIS, ABS, and PSPC)
  • Ability to understand and apply basic math skills
  • Respect for environmental stewardship in use, storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Knowledge of shipyard safety practices
  • High School Education or equivalent or relevant vocational education
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from drawings and blueprints
  • Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work overtime or shift work as necessary
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work at heights of 60 ft.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces using a respirator, and work in small workspaces at odd angles.

What Additional Things Would Distinguish You

  • Certification as a C-12 air sprayer and C-14 airless sprayer (NACE/NBPI; SSPC standards)
  • Certification as a C-7 blaster (NACE/NBPI; SSPC standards)
  • Experience and knowledge of epoxies
  • Basic Welding Skills (Stick welding)
  • Certification or skills and experience in driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklift or manlifts
  • Knowledge of and experience using fibrous protective coverings (for insulation work)
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions with paint sprayers and other machinery used in the trade
  • Previous experience in a shipyard (new construction or repair)
  • Certification as a Shipyard Competent Person
  • Interest in and aptitude for taking on future crew leadership roles
