Job description

Portland Yacht Services is seeking a Marine Paint & Fiberglass Technician to join our Paint & Fiberglass Shop. Our team performs cosmetic and structural fiberglass repairs, composite work, gelcoat repairs, surface preparation, marine coatings, and refinishing. Projects range from small repairs and finish work to larger restoration and vessel refit projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural and cosmetic fiberglass repairs
• Perform composite repairs and fabrication
• Prepare fiberglass and composite surfaces for repair
• Perform gelcoat repairs and color matching
• Repair cracks, chips, gouges, and other surface damage
• Sand, grind, fill, and fair surfaces
• Prepare vessels and components for painting
• Mask and protect surrounding areas
• Apply marine primers, paints, and coatings
• Perform or assist with spray-finishing projects
• Perform touch-ups and finish repairs
• Assist with restoration and refit projects
• Maintain paint, fiberglass, and finishing tools and equipment
• Follow applicable safety and environmental procedures
• Accurately document work performed and materials used

Requirements

Previous marine paint, fiberglass, gelcoat, or composite experience is preferred. Relevant experience may also come from automotive body and paint, composites, industrial coatings, aircraft, manufacturing, or other finishing trades.
