The employee shall provide Support Services for maintenance, overhaul, and upkeep of small boats for the USCG. The candidate must be capable of supporting non-supervisory tasks involving dismantling, repair, relocation, modification, maintenance, alignment, and installation of marine machinery, equipment, and systems. These include propulsion machinery, propellers, and jet propulsion units. The role requires practical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, their components, and attachments, along with understanding the operating characteristics, installation, repair techniques, and environmental challenges of working aboard marine vessels, such as limited space and proximity of machinery.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a team performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on USCG vessels.
- Assess and repair equipment and components, identifying failures and potential failures.
- Perform repairs and replacements of small boat sponson collar systems.
- Conduct mechanical and electrical repairs and replacements of trailer components.
- Perform scheduled boat maintenance, including oil and filter changes.
- Conduct basic electrical troubleshooting, installation, and testing.
- Work in a clean, efficient, and safe manner.
- Conduct operational testing and quality inspections.
- Process Maintenance Procedure Cards.
- Manage progress and ensure work is performed correctly and on time, following standards and guidelines.
- Inform management of progress and requirements.
- Transport boats using company vehicles to various locations around the US.
- Launch and recover boats for testing and evaluation.
- Operate a forklift safely.
Desired Skills And Abilities
- Familiarity with Mercruiser Bravo series outdrives, Yanmar Diesel engines, Volvo and Steyr marine diesel engines, Hamilton jet drives, Cummins QSB 6.7 engines, and other marine propulsion diesels under 300hp.
- Knowledge of marine DC electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and manuals.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma required.
- USCG approved boating course certification or ability to obtain.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications and strong communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with RHIBs for federal or USCG boats is desirable.
- Clean driving record required.
- Own tools and toolbox required.
Experience
- Marine Mechanic: 4 years required.
Travel
- Up to 10% travel required; full per diem and travel expenses paid.
Security
- Must pass a background check.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in office, industrial, or shipboard environments, including climbing ladders, confined spaces, and extreme temperatures.
- Lifting and moving materials within safety guidelines.
