The Federal law enforcement community relies on qualified Marine Machinery Mechanics to diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines, propulsion machinery, and associated systems.
Responsibilities include interpreting manuals and work orders, using hand and power tools, and applying troubleshooting methods to restore vessel components efficiently.

While there is no minimum amount of training or experience required, you must have had experience, military or civilian, paid or unpaid, of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of a Marine Machinery Mechanic, WG-5334-10.

Ability to perform work of a Marine Machinery Mechanic without more than normal supervision.

Qualified applicants must have experience applying knowledge of marine machinery assembly, installation, and repair to diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs on systems such as diesel and gasoline marine engines, propulsion machinery, generators, pumps, fuel systems, bilge systems, hydraulic steering systems, trailers, and related vessel components. Applicants must be able to interpret technical manuals, specifications, work orders, shop directives, and other instructions; use and maintain hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and measuring devices; identify and select appropriate materials and replacement parts; and apply troubleshooting methods to determine the nature and extent of repairs needed.
