Job description

Job Opening: Marine Laborer at the Port of Portland

We are hiring a Marine Laborer for the Port of Portland. Join our team to contribute to vital marine maintenance and repair projects. This is a limited-duration role with a sunset date set for six months from the start date. If you are passionate about marine environments and hands-on work, this opportunity is for you.

Please note: This role is temporary, with a defined end date.

The working hours are generally Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., with occasional overtime and weekend work. During summer, hours shift to 6 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Responsibilities:
  1. Perform general labor and construction tasks, including asphalt repair, maintenance of marine rail systems, equipment care, and light janitorial duties.
  2. Participate in complex maintenance and repair activities and perform emergency repairs as needed.
  3. Complete administrative and other assigned tasks.
  4. Report to and follow the guidance of the lead Foreman for the group.
Experience and Education:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least two years of general labor and equipment operation experience in construction or maintenance, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Journeyman certification preferred.
    • Valid state driver's license required; Class A commercial license preferred or ability to obtain within probation.
    • Ability to obtain TWIC card; all licensing fees will be reimbursed.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform physical work in challenging conditions.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Participate in multi-trade tasks and contribute to proposals and cost estimates.

Selection Process (tentative schedule):
  1. Qualification review by HR during the week of May 26, 2025.
  2. Evaluation by Subject Matter Experts based on application materials and responses.
