Overview

Florida Detroit Diesel Allison is searching for a Marine & Industrial Applications Engineer.

Travel Required: 75%, to include international travel.

Position is based in Florida.

POSITION SUMMARYResponsible for providing applications engineering support for sales programs. Work with outside sales personnel providing field support for customers. Act as customer interface with responsibility to increase sales by providing engineering and design support for key customers, working with customers and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) vendors through the full sales cycle.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the closure of new and existing business by providing design and engineering support for all aspects of OEM programs including product design, process design, competitive analysis, quotations, and project management of subcontractors and vendors.
  • Provide technical assistance to marine sales personnel as needed when calling on customers. Also have direct customer interface requiring presentations, solicitation for new business, and on-going communications.
  • Establish relationships with key management staff and decision makers to increase new business to meet sales targets. Display or demonstrate products, using samples or catalog, and emphasize technical capabilities and materials applications.
  • Build relationships and work with sales personnel, business partner sales personnel, and business partner technical personnel to help achieve the marine engine population goals for all organizations.
  • Work with customers and OEM engineers to define process improvements and material selections to meet specific performance requirements for product applications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer generated reports.
  • Assess mechanical engineering needs pertaining to new and existing projects and apply existing engineering design or develop new designs as appropriate to meet identified needs.
  • Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding product specifications and manufacturing capabilities to achieve desired design.
  • Maintain documentation necessary to fulfill regulatory requirements including ISO 9001.
  • Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification.
  • Confer with other engineers and shop staff to implement operation and maintenance schedules and procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Specify system components or direct modifications of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Work with supplier personnel as necessary to investigate standard equipment failures and system malfunctions. Recommend design modifications to eliminate such equipment or system malfunctions.
  • Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications. Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems.
  • Develop, coordinate and monitor all aspects of installation to ensure proper application and installation procedures are followed.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
Qualifications

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering and/or three to seven years related experience.

Skills & Abilities

Computer Skills: Basic computer navigation and utilization skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) preferred.

Inventor or similar three dimension solid modeling / CAD experience is preferred.

Certificates & Licenses

Passed Engineer In Training Exam is preferred.

Other Requirements

Strong hands-on skills and interest in heavy diesel machinery is required.

Ability to effectively present information to top management, sales groups, engineers, and/or customers required.

Ability to read and understand technical specifications, drawings, documents such as safety rules, blueprints, material specifications, quality standards and procedure manuals.
