Job Opportunity: Hull and Marine Liability Underwriter at Zurich

Zurich is seeking a Hull and Marine Liability Underwriter in the Ocean Marine Department out of our office in New York.

You will have the opportunity to develop and utilize your marketing and analytical skills along with your knowledge of marine operations to analyze and underwrite new and renewal marine hull and liability insurance business. As a member of Zurich's Underwriting Team, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with Select Brokers in the marine insurance segment.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. Administer and monitor underwriting rules, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
  2. Develop and maintain collaboration with Line of Business representatives and other business-related needs.
  3. Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition, working closely with marine specialists and global brokers.
  4. Support sales culture by serving as a Help Point for agents, brokers, and customers.
  5. Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities, including cross-selling with other departments in Zurich North America.
  6. Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
  7. Qualify accounts to align with the organization’s risk appetite and business potential.
  8. Make broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.

This role offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of Zurich’s marine hull and liability insurance business while developing your underwriting and sales expertise.

Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 1+ years of experience in Insurance, Banking, Mortgage, Finance, Construction, or Market Facing areas, OR
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 2+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support, AND
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, legal, and regulatory environment.
  • Understanding of underwriting philosophy, techniques, and guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Established broker relationships in the South region
  • Ability to assess risk effectively
  • Strong retail broker relationships
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Knowledge of quote timeframes for new and renewal business
  • Technical knowledge and skills with progression of responsibilities
  • Proficiency in PC and related software
  • Professional designations such as CPCU, AMIM, or ARM are a plus

At Zurich, compensation is influenced by various factors including location, role, skills, and experience. The proposed salary range for this position is $78,000 - $108,000, with a 10% short-term incentive bonus. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond this range to apply, as they will be considered based on their qualifications.
