Job summary

Summerset Marine Construction in Wisconsin seeks a Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, service, and repair diesel trucks, barges, and heavy equipment. You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and respond to breakdowns to keep the fleet operating reliably.

Responsibilities include diagnosing engines and systems, maintaining records, and communicating downtime. Travel locally is frequent as part of field service, with safety and quality rules guiding every task.

Qualifications

  • High school or GED equivalent degree.
  • 3+ years of mechanical experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • CDL, Class A (preferred).
  • Experience in maintaining machines and/or work in construction trades a plus.
  • Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English, including safety rules, operating procedures, manuals, etc.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, operate, and test trucks, barges, heavy equipment, and other company-owned machinery to diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and operating system malfunctions.
  • Repair and diagnose engines, electrical systems, navigational equipment, pumps, hydraulics, steering mechanisms, braking systems, and other mechanical components.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field repairs and service calls as needed to minimize downtime and support company operations and customers.
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment for safety concerns, damage, excessive wear, or other conditions requiring maintenance or repair.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, parts used, and completed work.
  • Communicate equipment conditions, repair needs, parts requirements, and anticipated downtime to appropriate personnel.
  • Safely operate company vehicles, forklifts, and heavy equipment as necessary to inspect, move, test, or repair equipment.
  • Comply with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
