Job summary

Mackay Marine in Houston seeks an experienced Marine Electronics Technician to join our Deer Park, TX depot. You will install, service, and repair radios, radars, sonars, and related equipment aboard commercial ships, testing and updating software as needed.

Under limited supervision, you will use schematics and manuals to troubleshoot complex systems and prepare detailed service reports. Applicants should have strong electronics knowledge, a qualifying license, and the ability to lift up to 50

Qualifications

• 3+ years of MSE, MET, ET, or AT experience in commercial shipping and/or Navy/Coast Guard/Marines.
• Associate degree or equivalent technical training and experience.
• Strong knowledge of electronics theory and application.
• FCC General License with Radar Endorsement and GMDSS Radio Operator Maintainer License preferred.
• Be physically fit; often carry up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and masts, exposure to weather.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Marine Electronics Technician Job Summary

Under limited supervision, Marine Electronics Technicians install, service, and repair marine electronic equipment such as radios, radars, sonars, etc. onboard commercial ships. They test, adjust, and troubleshoot components, and antennas as well as loading, updating, and modifying software. METs utilize their knowledge of electronic theory and circuitry to address a variety of technical problems. They also make intelligent use of complex schematics, blueprints, and manuals to accurately achieve assignments and upon completion will compose a detailed service report.

Marine Electronics Technician Requirements

• 3+ years of MSE, MET, ET, or AT experience in commercial shipping and/or acquired in the Navy, Coast Guard, or Marines.

• Valid FCC General License with Radar Endorsement and GMDSS Radio Operator Maintainer License preferred.
• Be physically fit. Work environment often involves carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders and masts, and exposure to weather.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.
