Qualifications

• Knowledge of marine construction methods, look-ahead planning, production tracking, and safety requirements (OSHA, EM 385-1-1, NAVFAC, USACE, USCG).
• Strong leadership, communication, reporting, and computer skills; ability to travel and work project-driven schedules.

Responsibilities

• Lead site-wide construction operations through Foremen, crew leaders, Dive Supervisors, and subcontractors.
• Develop look-ahead plans and coordinate priorities, manpower, equipment, vessels, materials, logistics, mobilization and demobilization.
• Monitor production, schedules, and resource utilization; coordinate corrective plans with the Project Manager.
• Review drawings, permits, RFIs, submittals, work plans, and contract requirements; report scope changes and project risks.
• Provide safety leadership and ensure planning, briefings, and qualifications are in place; enforce safety requirements.
• Ensure fieldwork meets contract and quality-control requirements; coordinate inspections and punch-list close-out.
• Serve as primary field contact for stakeholders while routing decisions through the Project Manager.
• Maintain daily reports, field logs, safety records, progress photos, and change-order documentation.
• Establish accountability for field leadership and coach Foremen and crew leaders.

Marine Construction Field Superintendent

Position Summary

Underwater Mechanix Services (UMX) is seeking an experienced Marine Construction Field Superintendent to lead the on-site execution of marine, heavy civil, and commercial diving projects. The Superintendent is responsible for overall field planning, coordination, safety, production, quality, and documentation.

This position directs field operations through Foremen, crew leaders, designated Dive Supervisors, and subcontractors. Working closely with the Project Manager, the Superintendent ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and according to contract requirements.

This position is based in Jacksonville, Florida, and requires extensive travel. Full-time presence at assigned project sites is mandatory, and job locations will change as projects are completed.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all site-wide construction operations through Foremen, crew leaders, designated Dive Supervisors, equipment operators, and subcontractors.


• Develop look-ahead plans and coordinate daily priorities, manpower, equipment, vessels, materials, logistics, mobilization, and demobilization.


• Monitor production, productivity, schedules, and resource utilization; identify constraints and coordinate corrective plans with the Project Manager.


• Review drawings, specifications, permits, RFIs, submittals, work plans, and contract requirements; promptly report scope changes, delays, differing conditions, and project risks.


• Provide safety leadership, ensure required planning and briefings are completed, verify personnel qualifications, enforce applicable safety requirements, and exercise stop-work authority when necessary.


• Ensure fieldwork meets contract and quality-control requirements; coordinate inspections, correct deficiencies, and oversee punch-list and field close-out activities.


• Serve as the primary field contact for project stakeholders while routing contractual, pricing, and scope decisions through the Project Manager.


• Maintain accurate daily reports, field logs, safety and inspection records, progress photographs, labor and equipment records, and documentation supporting change orders.


• Establish accountability for field leadership, coordinate staffing, coach Foremen and crew leaders, and address performance or conduct concerns with Project Management and Human Resources.

Qualifications

• Minimum of ten years of field experience in marine construction, heavy civil construction, waterfront construction, commercial diving support, or a related construction environment.


• At least four years of experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent directly supervising field personnel.


• Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple crews, subcontractors, equipment, and work activities across an active construction site.


• Knowledge of marine construction methods, look-ahead planning, production tracking, construction documents, and applicable OSHA, EM 385-1-1, NAVFAC, USACE, and USCG requirements.


• Strong leadership, communication, reporting, and computer skills; eligibility for federal installation access, and ability to travel and work project-driven schedules.


• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain federal installation access credentials.


• OSHA 30 Hour Construction Certification.


• Preferred EM 385-1-1 40 Hour Certification.

Physical Requirements

This position is performed primarily in active marine, waterfront, and heavy civil construction environments. The Foreman must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, board vessels and barges, climb ladders, traverse uneven terrain, and wear required personal protective equipment.

The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, and hands-on participation in field activities. The ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds is required. Regular travel and work at changing project locations are essential functions of the position.
