Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical oceanography, environmental science, or marine chemistry.
• Knowledge of biological principles and experimental design.
• Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and R.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience following proper safety protocols when working with chemicals.
• Scientific writing background to contribute to published reports and/or peer reviewed publications.

Aufgaben

• Perform laboratory sampling of sediment, tissue, and seawater for analysis of chemicals including carbon, nitrogen, phosphate, silica, pH, alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbon, total suspended material.
• Analyze samples using standard curves and certified reference materials with spectrometer, elemental analyzer, flow cytometer, microscope, dissolved inorganic carbon analyzer, titrator, and other equipment.
• Maintain and do monthly checks on existing chemical laboratory equipment.
• Maintain weekly log and checks on chemical inventory per NEFSC safety protocol.
• Write SOPs and work from existing SOPs for sample analysis.
• Record data for all relevant literature searches and laboratory analyses.
• Lift up to 50 lbs. and be able to change gas cylinders following SOPs.
