Cotecna Canada Inc. is seeking experienced Marine/Cargo Surveyors to join our subcontractor network for assignments around the Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington regions.

You will perform draft surveys and cargo inspections aboard vessels and at ports, with reporting duties and strict adherence to client requirements. The role requires independent work, a valid TWIC card, and reliable transportation; assignments are local to the port/terminal network.

Qualifications

  • Strong attention to safety protocols and client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct draft surveys and related vessel/cargo measurements.
  • Attend and inspect cargo loading and discharge operations.
  • Perform cargo, shipment, and quantity/condition inspections as assigned.
  • Accurately record measurements, observations, and inspection findings.
  • Prepare and submit inspection/survey reports and supporting documentation.
  • Follow applicable client requirements, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with vessel personnel, terminals, clients, and the operations team.
  • Travel locally to ports, terminals, vessels, and other assignment locations as required.

Marine / Cargo Surveyor – Subcontractor

Location: Portland, OR / Vancouver, WA
Employment Type: Independent Contractor / Subcontractor

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Marine/Cargo Surveyors to join our subcontractor network for assignments in the Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington areas. Assignments will primarily be within the surveyor’s local region.

The successful candidate will have practical experience in marine and cargo inspection activities, particularly draft surveys and cargo loading/discharge inspections, and will be comfortable working aboard vessels and at ports and terminals.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct draft surveys and related vessel/cargo measurements.
  • Attend and inspect cargo loading and discharge operations.
  • Perform cargo, shipment, and quantity/condition inspections as assigned.
  • Accurately record measurements, observations, and inspection findings.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Marine Surveyor, Cargo Surveyor, Inspector, or similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting draft surveys.
  • Experience with cargo loading/discharge and shipment inspections.
  • Knowledge of marine cargo operations and port/terminal environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prepare accurate reports.
  • Ability to work independently and respond to assignments based on operational requirements.
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
  • Valid TWIC card required
