Summary:

Performs vessel cargo and navigational watch duties.

Essential Functions:

  1. Monitor ship stability and make any necessary adjustments, reporting any deficiencies to the Marine Supervisor.
  2. Assist with planning and conducting all offloading cargo transfer and storage ballast, crude washing, and tank cleaning/gas freeing operations.
  3. Assist the mooring team and supervise the tanker mooring operations, assist with tug and towing gear inspection, tanker moorings and export hose tackle.
  4. Ensure that unplanned discharges are identified, halted where possible, and reported according to policy, procedure, and regulation.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure that all charts and navigational publications needed are onboard and maintain and correct nautical charts and publications as specified by notice to mariners.
  2. Ensure that bridge electronics, navigational and alarm systems, and lights are in good working order and all required flags are aboard and in good condition.
  3. Monitor, interpret, and apply meteorological information, such as wind speed and direction, swell height and period, tides, currents, and weather forecasts, and identify and report issues early to ensure adjustments to the passage can be made accordingly.
  4. Undertake the safe navigation of the ship using radar, ECDIS, and all other bridge equipment and available means and monitor the ship’s position, speed, direction, and stability, as well as the latest weather reports, making any necessary adjustments, and reporting any deficiencies to the Marine Master.
  5. Report all accidents, near-miss incidents, and work-related ill health conditions to the Master/OIM and Marine Supervisor.
  6. Actively promote safe work within teams and encourage safe behaviors.
  7. Undertake safety 'walk rounds' within own area to identify areas of improvement.
  8. Understand the emergency duties of self and those within own area.
  9. Prepare to start, start up, monitor, maintain, and shut down marine operations.
  10. Operate under PTW and Isolation Certificates and conduct toolbox talks.
  11. Assist with enclosed space entry, inspection, and maintenance activities.
  12. Test isolations for integrity according to company procedures.
  13. Confirm that the working area is free of hazards as per Permit or procedure using appropriate tests (gas/H2S Inert, etc).
  14. Perform maintenance activities within the limit of responsibility and training.
  15. Attend shift crossover meetings to receive instructions for daily work routine by the Marine Supervisor.
  16. Assist with planning and conduct all offloading, cargo transfer and storage, ballast, crude washing, and tank cleaning/gas freeing operations, being fully familiar with the OCIMF publications “International Safety Guide for Oil Tankers and Terminals (ISGOTT)” and “Cargo Guidelines for F(P)SOs”.
  17. Assist the mooring team and supervise the tanker mooring operations, assisting with tug and towing gear inspections, tanker moorings and export hose tackle, and all items contained in the pre-offloading checklists.
  18. Assist with all supply boat operations associated with the FPSO terminal.
  19. Assist with the preparation of reports as directed, including but not limited to maintaining the UTL/Deck Log Book and ensuring that proper records are kept particularly during lifting, cargo, ballast, crude washing, inerting, gas freeing, and tanks entry operations, as well as recording all activities associated with the Cargo Department, including all marine craft visiting the terminal and the sea and weather observations.
  20. Ensure timely and effective contributions to reporting and investigation of all incidents as required.
  21. Attend and supervise all crane operations and rigging as required.
  22. Understudy for the Marine Supervisor.
  23. Ensure that unplanned discharges are identified, halted where possible, and reported according to policy, procedure, and regulation.
  24. Deal with equipment, waste, and other materials for disposal according to the correct procedure.
  25. Handle deliveries as HSSE barrier holder as per STONES HSE case.
  26. Carry out any lawful command and delegated duty as issued by the Master and Marine Supervisor.

Certification:

  • Required:
    • Must hold a valid USCG MMC with a minimum of a 3ʳᵈ Officer or higher
    • Officer in charge of a navigational watch (OICNW) (II/1)
    • Tankerman PIC / STCW – Advanced Oil Tanker Cargo Operation
    • GMDSS Operator (IV/2)
    • Basic Safety Training (VI/1)
    • Personal Survival Craft (VI/2) – No Restrictions
    • Advanced Fire Fighting (VI/3)
    • Medical First-Aid Provider (VI/4)
    • Vessel Personnel w/ Designated Security Duties (VI/6)
    • Valid USCG 719k Med Cert (STCW)
    • Valid TWIC Card
  • Preferred:
    • Passport
    • IADC Rig Pass / SafeGulf equivalent
    • T-HUET (or better)

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent [G.E.D.]
  • Minimum of 2 years sea time in rank as a 3ʳᵈ Officer or Higher on Oil Tanker or FPSO
  • Previous Tanker Vessel experience
  • Good experience in risk assessment, permit to work, and instrument/mechanical isolation standards.

Duration/Travel/Timeline Details: 10% Travel – To and from the vessel along with shoreside training

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions/Work Environment:

Works both inside and outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. Meet the USCG 719K physical standard.

Other:

Must be able to work in a drug-free workplace; never under the influence of mind-altering prescriptions or non-prescription drugs, including alcohol, and other drugs of abuse.
