Job summary

Ocean Associates, Inc. is seeking a Marine Biologist to support the Southwest Fisheries Science Center’s Marine Mammal & Turtle Division (MMTD) in La Jolla, CA. The role includes lab and field work, processing samples, and assisting with reports for ESA/MMPA projects.

Responsibilities span necropsies, strandings response, data management, and travel to meetings as needed. A relevant degree with field experience is required; hazardous materials shipping certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience conducting marine mammal and/or turtle necropsies.
• Experience responding to marine mammal and/or turtle strandings.
• Experience collecting biological samples and data in the field.

Responsibilities

• Laboratory analysis in support of ESA/MMPA assessments; hormone levels and genetics in tissues.
• Photographic analysis for species/individual identification and photogrammetry.
• Data entry and QA/QC; assist with reports and manuscripts.
