Job summary

CACI International Inc. seeks a Craft Automation and Control Engineer in Norfolk, VA. The role collaborates with mechanical engineers, software developers, and systems teams to design robust control architectures and hardware/software integration for marine platforms.

You will develop state-machine logic, interface PLCs with sensors and CANBus, and create intuitive GUI/HMI interfaces for operator control and monitoring, while documenting software and deploying updates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong analytical skills for debugging hardware/software integration issues.
  • Experience interfacing PLCs with sensors, actuators and CANBus networks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop algorithms and state-machine logic from complex project requirements.
  • Interface PLCs with sensors, computers, and other PLCs using analog, digital, PWM signals and CANBus.
  • Design GUI/HMI for operator control and monitoring.
  • Document software functions and manage version control and deployment.
  • Use AutoCAD or Solidworks Electrical to draft electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Evaluate requirements to select hardware and outline control architectures.
  • Identify hardware interfaces via documentation and OEM collaboration.
  • Design and integrate hydraulic systems for motion control and electronic valve interfaces.
  • Size and integrate actuators for precise positioning and motion control.
  • Design and size AC/DC power distribution networks and electrical power control systems.
  • Monitor, control, and integrate power storage, generation, and distribution.
  • Apply grounding, shielding, and signal isolation to mitigate electrical noise.
  • Perform power load calculations and manage electrical budgets.
  • Layout control panels and wiring, ensuring proper component spacing and routing.
