Job summary

CAC I International Inc. is seeking a Naval Marine Engineer to support Navy/MSC/USCG surface ships, focusing on HM&E systems. The role involves solving complex mechanical problems and coordinating with shipbuilders, PMS 377, and related teams.

Local to the DMV area or relocation is required, with hybrid work 2-3 days remote. The candidate should bring 7+ years of experience, a BS in Mechanical/Marine/Aerospace/Civil, and the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen and ability to obtain/maintain Secret clearance.
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • BS in Mechanical, Marine, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanics of materials.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot mechanical problems with attention to detail.
  • Experience with Navy, MSC, or US commercial ship design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop marine auxiliary and piping systems; review design documents and develop ship system specs.
  • Provide technical analysis and support for mechanical, electrical propulsion, and auxiliary/piping systems.
  • Deliver engineering services including specification writing, system modeling, calculations, drawings, and documentation.
  • Plan, design, develop, modify naval vessel auxiliary systems and HM&E components.
  • Review CDRLs, Change Paperwork, and day-to-day LPD platform issues related to shock, vibration, EMI per MIL standards.

The Opportunity

CACI is looking for an Engineer in support of the Navy, MSC, USCG or similar surface ship vessels. You will be working to solve and manage various technical problems in the area of Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) systems in support of the Machinery and Systems Engineering Managers.

This position does support a hybrid working environment (2-3 days of remote work) However, candidates must be local to the DMV area or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities
  • Development of marine auxiliary and piping systems, review and analyzing preliminary and functional design documentation and development of ship system specifications.
  • Technical Analysis & Support: Review and analyze mechanical, electrical propulsion, and auxiliary/piping systems. Develop technical data packages to support vessel design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Engineering Services: Provide comprehensive support in areas such as specification writing, system design, system modeling, mechanical calculations, outfitting design, marine drawings, record drawing updates, ship checks, and technical document preparation, all aligned with drawing standards and marine design best practices.
  • Research and Development: Plan, design, develop, modify, and evaluate auxiliary systems, mechanical and electro‑mechanical components, controls, engines, machines, and thermal hydraulic systems for naval vessels.
  • Reviewing CDRLs, Change Paperwork, and day to day issues on the LPD platform in relation to shock, vibration, and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI). This often requires knowledge of MIL-DTL-901E, MIL-STD-167A, and MIL-STD-461G, as well as the various Mechanical & Electrical engineering disciplines related to these standards
Required
Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizen and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level clearance
  • Minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience
  • BS in Mechanical, Marine, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering concepts such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanics of materials.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to analyze and solve mechanical problems, with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to troubleshooting.
  • Engaging with various stakeholders between the client team, Ship Builder, PMS 377, SUPSHIP, and the Tech Warrant Holder community on the status of these reviews and issues & ensuring that there are no delays or schedule impacts
  • Conducting technical research related to these disciplines, and presenting findings at monthly working groups
  • Knowledgeable with Navy Shock/Vibration/EMI requirement
  • Proficient in DOD Testing Standards such as MIL-STD-810 related to shock and vibration.
  • Experience with applicable codes and standards (ABS, NVR, OSHA, NFPA, etc.)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD soft ware, with the ability to draft detailed multi-view drawings of systems, machinery spaces, assemblies, and products.
  • Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams, sharing knowledge and collaborating to achieve engineering objectives while learning from others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare technical reports, collaborate with team members, and present engineering solutions clearly.
  • Experience with US Navy, Military Sealift Command (MSC) and/or US commercial ship design standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Power Point
Desired
  • Shipboard and/or shipyard experience
  • Experience with LPD Class ship
  • Experience with industry-standard engineering design and modeling soft ware, including AutoCAD, PIPE-FLO, Ship Constructor, NAVISWORKS, or similar tools for system design and analysis.
  • NAVSEA 05 or Operational experience in Marine Systems (CIVMAR, USN, MM)
  • Experience with Navy Surface Ships Main Propulsion Systems, HM&E System, Merchant Marine or Navy Experience.
  • Active Secret Clearance

The Proposed Salary Range For This Position Is

$86,600 - $181,800
