Job summary

SMI is seeking an Assistant Marine Account Specialist to grow strong client and carrier relationships within an independent brokerage. You will be the main contact for your portfolio, respond to inquiries promptly, and continually learn marine products and underwriting guidelines.

You will analyze exposures, prepare renewal specs, and process new/renewal placements while negotiating rates when appropriate. A supportive, people-first culture and growth opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• 3+ years account management in a brokerage or captive agency with an active P&C license.
• Strong knowledge of Property and Casualty insurance.
• Interest in marine coverages, carriers and policies.
• Excellent communication and organization.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the main point of contact for your portfolio of clients, vendors, and carriers.
• Respond to client, carrier, sales, and supervisor inquiries in a timely, professional manner.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge on marine carrier products, guidelines, underwriting, and changes.
• Analyze and compare marine exposures to develop renewal or new business specs.
• Process and submit new and renewal clients for marketing and placement; review quotes for competitiveness.
• Champion SMI's spirit and core values with every client interaction.
