Position Information

Join Sonoma County Regional Parks as a Marina Attendant!

Marina Attendants

Marina Attendants work independently, performing a variety of construction, semi-skilled maintenance, and repair work, including janitorial tasks for the bathrooms, shower facilities, offices, and laundromat at the marina. These positions enforce marina rules, regulations, and ordinances, and perform security rounds and dock checks. Responsibilities also include:

  1. Operating an ice plant
  2. Collecting marina fees, handling cash, and retail sales
  3. Dispensing fuel, oil, and ice to boats
  4. Composing minor incident reports
  5. Performing janitorial tasks for bathrooms, shower facilities, laundromat, and marina office

The ideal candidates will possess many of the following qualifications:

  1. Six months of experience working in a marina, handling small boats, and practicing safe boating
  2. Two or more years of experience in semi-skilled building construction, electrical, equipment maintenance, painting, and/or plumbing
  3. The ability to enforce rules and build positive community relationships
  4. Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office skills
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  6. Positivity, adaptability, and self-motivation

About The Marina

Spud Point Marina is located on Bodega Harbor in Bodega Bay, serving as a hub for commercial and sportfishing in Sonoma County. Bodega Bay offers restaurants, galleries, shops, and parks with outdoor activities like camping, hiking, and fishing. It is also a great base for touring the North Coast and Wine Country. The area features sailing, whale watching, and sportfishing trips, providing excellent opportunities to enjoy the ocean. Sonoma County Regional Parks operates the Sport Fishing Center across from Spud Point Marina, where private chartered boats can dock for passenger loading and unloading.

About Regional Parks

Sonoma County Regional Parks manages 60 parks and beaches from Petaluma to Gualala and Sonoma to Bodega Bay, offering diverse landscapes, trails, sports fields, playgrounds, and campgrounds. It also oversees the county's largest ocean marina and environmental education center.

Extra-help Employment

Extra-help employees support permanent staff on a temporary basis. They are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanent positions. Benefits such as long-term disability insurance, vacation accrual, retirement participation, or promotional eligibility are generally not provided. Employment is limited to a maximum of one year, with a three-month break required before re-employment. Eligible employees may qualify for county medical coverage contributions.

This recruitment aims to fill up to six temporary, extra-help positions. The employment list may be used for future vacancies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: Two years in semi-skilled building, repair, maintenance, groundskeeping, with some marina experience preferred.
  • Education: Any combination that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities.
  • Desirable: Six months of paid experience at a similar marina.
  • License: Valid driver’s license with necessary endorsements for California.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of construction materials, safety practices, tools, semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical work, horticultural practices, and preventive maintenance. Ability to perform manual tasks, enforce rules, operate tools, perform first aid, swim, communicate effectively, and work varied shifts.
