Job summary

North Slope Borough School District in Utqiaġvik, AK seeks a Plumbing/Maintenance Specialist to assemble, install, and repair heating, water, and drainage systems in district facilities. You will inspect repairs, estimate costs, and coordinate with the Plant Manager on contracting needs.

Extensive travel to villages is required. Requires Alaska journeyman license and fitness card; physical duties include lifting up to 70 pounds.

Qualifications

• Graduate from high school or general education degree.
• Two years of technical training in plumbing systems or university program certificate.
• Four to five years related experience and/or training.

Responsibilities

• Locate, repair and maintain water, heating and sewage systems in District facilities.
• Complete all preventative maintenance work in a timely manner.
• Inspect all contracted repair or new installation.
• Estimate cost of plumbing repair projects in terms of labor, material and overhead.
• Coordinate with the Plant Manager to determine if repair jobs should be contracted.
• Extensive travel to villages required.

Job description

Assemble, install, maintain, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.

NSBSD Pedagogy

Education and/or Experience

• Graduate from high school or general education degree.
• Two years of technical training in plumbing systems or university program certificate.
• Four to five years related experience and/or training.

Language Skills

• Read and interpret procedures, policies and regulations, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Write routine reports and correspondence.
• Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, staff, and public.

Mathematical Skills

• Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Compute rate, ratio and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

• Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.
• Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Valid Alaska driver's license.
• State of Alaska Journeyman's Plumber License and current Alaska fitness card.
