Job description

Basic Function:Conducts optical testing on fiber optic cable assemblies in accordance with industry, corporate, and military standards and procedures. Sets up equipment, conducts testing, calculates and records the results.

Significant Responsibilities:

  1. Performs specific job responsibilities:
    • Support production efforts by performing required inspections, analysis, and tests.
    • Update test log sheets, print tests sheets and generate test reports.
    • Understand and apply industrial, corporate, and military standards and procedures to test
      efforts, including OTDR, Source & Meter and Visual scope equipment.
    • Perform mechanical/environmental testing required by customer such as pull test, leak test, etc...
    • Troubleshoot test setups and failures for root causes, able to locate suspect optical interfaces, broken alignment sleeves, misconfigured equipment, etc...
    • Perform inspections, testing and analysis in support of customer complaints, return
      material authorizations, and root cause analysis using OTDR equipment.
    • Support Interferometry and Visual Inspection testing.
    • Perform Group B testing for QPL product families.
    • Support the Production team with Termination and Polishing processes when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education: Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in fiber optic testing.

Experience, Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs and FiberChek Pro, Connector Max endface testing software, and DORC or Daisi Data Pixel interferometry software. Ability to use Optotest, Rifocs, and Viavi equipment, including light sources, power meters, microscopes, switches, and OTDRs. Able to read and interpret cable assembly drawings and identify standard color coding of fiber optic cables. Must have eye and hand coordination for detailed ability to recognize mechanical fit problems. Ability to read and understand work instructions and procedures. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Ability to organize, complete tasks, and effectively manage time. Pays close attention to detail and can recognize and resolve problems.

Working Conditions:This is a sedentary job that requires sufficient vision for significant reading, computer usage, and troubleshooting. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. This work also requires an individual with sufficient hearing.
