The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, relevant experience, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
Job DescriptionJob Description
About Etched
Etched is building AI chips that are hard-coded for individual model architectures. Our first product (Sohu) only supports transformers, but has an order of magnitude more throughput and lower latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video models and extremely deep & parallel chain-of-thought reasoning agents.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Test and Production Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between hardware, software, and production, ensuring seamless testing and production line readiness for our advanced AI systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including ASIC design and software engineering, to build and optimize test and production processes that drive high yield, quality, and throughput.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development, implementation, and management of module-level, system-level, and solution-level hardware test to ensure our products exceed customer expectations for performance and quality
Design the test and environments for each level of test, including equipment selection, test code development, and debug and results analysis tools and procedures
Work with the silicon and platform teams to optimize testing for cost and time, while ensuring that adequate guard bands are developed and implemented for the range of customer environments
Assist in developing quality and reliability standards for all suppliers working with Etched. Ensure that all components and systems meet or exceed the required benchmarks.
Review and verify quality and reliability reports and data from suppliers, ensuring accuracy and adherence to Etched’s standards. Provide guidance and feedback to suppliers to ensure continuous improvement in performance and quality.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review and recommend component selection criteria. Ensure that selected components are capable of meeting program goals and the long-term reliability requirements of our datacenter applications.
Representative Projects
System-Level Testing Development: Work closely with the ASIC design and software teams to design and implement test stations for system-level testing and full server burn-in testing at the production line.
Diagnostic Test Creation: Collaborate with the software team to develop diagnostic tests necessary for comprehensive product functional testing.
Test Plan Development: Create detailed test plans to ensure production line flow is efficient, thorough, and aligned with product requirements.
ODM Collaboration: Partner with production engineers at Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) to help architect and design end-to-end production line flow, including flow, test coverage, and throughput models to meet capacity planning needs.
Optimization for Ramp Conditions: Optimize test time, yield, and coverage to achieve ideal ramp conditions, enabling efficient scaling to meet production demands.
Continuous Improvement: Analyze test data to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies and implement improvements to boost production line performance.
Capacity Planning: Develop and refine throughput models to ensure production meets current and future demand with optimal resource utilization.
You may be a good fit if you have
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
3+ years of experience in manufacturing test engineering, test design and development, production engineering, or a related role in the semiconductor or electronics industry
Experience with high performance compute and/or enterprise-class products and solutions
Strong understanding of system-level and functional testing methodologies
Experience working with ASIC design and software teams to develop and execute testing strategies
Proven ability to architect production line test setups and experience transferring test processes from development to production environments, including end-to-end flow design and capacity planning, in collaboration with ODMs
Proficiency in data analysis tools and methods for optimizing test time, yield, and throughput
Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on process optimization and continuous improvement
Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Hands-on experience with server-level testing and diagnostics
Familiarity with automation tools and techniques for production lines
Benefits
Full medical, dental, and vision packages, with 100% of premium covered
Housing subsidy of $2,000/month for those living within walking distance of the office
Daily lunch and dinner in our office
Relocation support for those moving to San Jose
How we’re different
Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.
We are a fully in-person team in San Jose, and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.
Compensation Range: $150K - $250K
