Description

Teal Drones, a wholly owned subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, is looking to fill an immediate position for a full-time Manufacturing Test Engineer. Teal is focused on creating world class system solutions serving a broad range of applications for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). We are working to deliver state of the art, high quality, high performance robotic systems to address the growing applications in the drone industry.

A successful Manufacturing Test Engineer encompasses a versatile range of responsibilities, blending mechanical fixturing, electrical engineering, and a strong focus on software development. The role treats the manufacturing team as the primary customer, responsible for defining requirements for the development of new test systems, as well as improving and streamlining existing systems.

This role will be based out of Teal’s facility in Salt Lake City, UT.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and debug in Linux using Linux tools for Linux systems.
  • Develop manufacturing test systems to test and calibrate assemblies and subassemblies of drones and ground control stations.
  • Utilize Python for various tasks and projects.
  • Implement Bash scripting and cross-compiling as needed.
  • Conduct source control using git as the primary tool.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Make and other software build systems.
  • Read and comprehend datasheets for ICs.
  • Quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Switch contexts efficiently based on changing priorities.
  • Act as a self-driven and motivated team player.
  • Engage in the code review process, providing and receiving feedback.
  • Take ownership of projects and ensure their completion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • 2 years of expertise and familiarity with the Linux operating system.
  • 3 years of proficiency in Python, demonstrating strong skills and experience.
  • Experience with cross-compiling.
  • Proficiency in Bash and bash scripting.
  • Ability to perform source control using git.
  • Knowledge of Make and software build systems.
  • Capability to read and understand datasheets for ICs.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities, with the ability to switch contexts.
  • Inherently self-driven and motivated to achieve success.
  • Adept at participating in the code review process, providing and receiving feedback comfortably.
  • Strong team collaboration skills.
  • Capable of being the primary owner of a project and ensuring its completion.

Additional Desired Attributes and Skills:

  • C/C++ skills with a focus on embedded systems.
  • Ability to read schematics and familiarity with hardware and software interactions.
  • Experience with I2C, SPI.
  • Proficiency in using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAGs, and other programmers.
  • 3D mechanical design experience, including taking designs through CNC.
  • Experience working with bare metal microcontrollers.
  • Familiarity with circuit design, board layout, and fabrication.
  • Skills in soldering and reworking of electronics.
  • Ability to architect and fabricate fixtures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in manipulating tools and equipment used in electronics, including soldering irons and precision instruments.
  • Visual Acuity: Clear vision for reading technical documents and using visual inspection tools. Competence in using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAGs, and other visual equipment.
  • Capable of moving within a manufacturing environment, accessing workstations, equipment, and testing areas. Can stand or sit for extended periods during testing and debugging.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Precision in soldering, reworking electronic components, and handling small tools for circuit design and fabrication.
  • Actively engages in team activities, participating in discussions, meetings, and code review sessions.
  • Equipment Operation: Competence in operating CNC machines for 3D mechanical design, fabrication, and prototyping.
  • Adaptability: Capability to adapt to changing priorities and seamlessly switch between various tasks and projects.
  • Strength: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, ensuring efficient handling of equipment and materials.
