Job description

The Manufacturing Engineering Test Engineer develops, validates, deploys, and sustains production test equipment and software for printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) and electronics assembly operations. The role supports new product introduction and mature production, with emphasis on test coverage, fault isolation, equipment reliability, data integrity, operator safety, cycle time, quality, and cost. The engineer works across R&D, Operations, Quality, IT, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and external test-system suppliers to deliver standardized test solutions that can be supported globally.

You will report directly to our Sr Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Manager, and you’ll work out of our Northford, CT location on 100% on-site work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain functional test, final functional test (FFT), in-circuit test (ICT), flying-probe, boundary-scan, programming, and electrical safety test solutions for PCBAs and electronic assemblies.
  • Translate product requirements, schematics, specifications, interfaces, and risk analyses into production test strategies, coverage requirements, acceptance limits, and diagnostic methods.
  • Design and integrate fixtures, cable assemblies, switching, instrumentation, power supplies, data acquisition, safety circuits, and error-proofing features.
  • Develop, review, debug, document, and release test software using structured, maintainable coding practices and approved configuration control.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) builds and product transfers; lead design-for-test reviews, testability analysis, equipment readiness, correlation, validation, capability studies, and production release.
  • Provide hands‑on production support; diagnose intermittent failures, false rejects, hardware faults, software defects, fixture wear, communication issues, and product failures.
  • Analyze yield, retest, failure modes, cycle time, downtime, measurement variation, and escape risk; implement verified corrective and preventive actions.
  • Establish calibration, preventive maintenance, spare‑part, backup, recovery, cybersecurity, software‑version, and obsolescence plans for test assets.
  • Define equipment specifications and statements of work; select and manage suppliers, review designs, track schedules, conduct acceptance testing, and validate delivered systems.
  • Partner with IT and MES teams to maintain station connectivity, database interfaces, traceability, test‑result integrity, and reporting.
  • Maintain test specifications, drawings, bills of material, software documentation, validation records, troubleshooting guides, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Train technicians, operators, and engineers in safe operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and test‑development best practices.
  • Lead improvements and capital projects that increase coverage, fault isolation, uptime, cycle time, maintainability, deployment speed, and total cost of test.
  • Communicate technical results, risks, schedules, and recommendations clearly; provide occasional off‑shift support and travel based on production needs.
You Must Have:
  • 5+ years of relevant test engineering experience, including development and support of automated production test equipment for PCBAs or electronic assemblies.
  • Hands‑on experience integrating test software, instruments, switching, fixtures, interfaces, and devices under test into reliable production systems.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, board drawings, specifications, and technical data and use common laboratory tools for systematic troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting NPI, design‑for‑test reviews, equipment qualification, measurement correlation, validation, and engineering change control.
  • Working knowledge of measurement uncertainty, GR&R, calibration, test limits, statistical analysis, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action.
  • Ability to work effectively with global and cross‑functional teams and communicate technical information clearly in English.
  • Ability to safely work in a manufacturing environment and travel up to 25%, including international travel when required.
We Value:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, computer, systems engineering, engineering technology, or a closely related technical field.
