Job summary

Aalo Atomics in Austin, Texas seeks a Manufacturing Technologist to advance manufacturing processes, tooling, and test systems. You will work with engineers, technicians, and quality personnel to build prototypes, analyze data, and translate concepts into practical capabilities.

The role involves CAD work, scripting for data collection, and supporting hardware from prototype through production, under the direction of a senior engineer. On-site work is required.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree or diploma in mechanical engineering technology, manufacturing engineering technology, mechatronics, electromechanical technology, automation, or a related technical field.
• Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing development, prototypes, tooling, equipment, automation, or test systems.
• Reading engineering drawings, mechanical and electrical schematics, technical procedures, and equipment documentation.
• Assemble, configure, measure, test, and troubleshoot technical hardware using appropriate tools and instruments.
• Use CAD and technical documentation tools to prepare or update models, drawings, BOMs, or comparable records.
• Analyze technical data and develop or maintain scripts, data-collection tools, or similar manufacturing-support utilities under engineering direction.
• Strong written and verbal communication and ability to maintain traceable records.
• Sound technical judgment and ability to collaborate in a fast-paced factory environment.
• Must be based in the United States and willing to work on-site in Austin, Texas.

Responsibilities

About the Role

As a Manufacturing Technologist at Aalo Atomics, you will support the development and improvement of manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, and test systems. You will work hands-on with engineers, technicians, operators, and Quality personnel to build prototypes, investigate technical problems, analyze data, and help translate engineering concepts into practical manufacturing capabilities. Your work may span mechanical design support, electrical and controls systems, software and automation tools, testing, and production implementation.

This is a full-time, salaried role within Manufacturing. You will work under the technical direction of an assigned, qualified on-staff engineer who directs technical assignments, reviews methods and findings, and retains engineering design authority, approval authority, and final engineering responsibility. You will exercise hands-on technical judgment within defined objectives and requirements, recommend improvements, and implement approved changes while preserving Quality's independent inspection, acceptance, and disposition authority.

This role supports engineering and does not serve as the lead or sole engineer, replace the supervising engineer, or include signing or sealing engineering work. Routine production labor, general maintenance, installation, and unrelated IT support are not primary duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, configure, and troubleshoot prototypes, fixtures, manufacturing equipment, and test systems using engineer-reviewed requirements, drawings, and instructions.
• Assist with manufacturing-process development, equipment trials, and production prove-outs; document setups, operating conditions, and results for engineering review.
• Prepare and update CAD models, drawings, layouts, and bills of materials (BOMs) to support mechanical development and tooling projects.
• Support sensors, instrumentation, electrical interfaces, controls, and automation used in manufacturing and test operations under engineering direction.
• Develop or maintain scripts, data-collection tools, dashboards, and manufacturing-support software; document changes and test results for review before production use.
• Collect and analyze manufacturing, equipment, quality, and test data; identify trends, investigate variation, and present findings and recommendations to Engineering.
• Execute verification and validation activities using reviewed procedures and established acceptance criteria; document configurations, results, and deviations for engineering approval.
• Investigate equipment and process problems using structured troubleshooting and root-cause methods; recommend corrective actions and help evaluate approved solutions.
• Prepare and maintain controlled work instructions, test procedures, process documentation, and technical records in accordance with the Aalo Quality Manual and applicable document-control requirements.
• Support implementation of engineering changes after required reviews and approvals, and train production personnel on approved processes, equipment, tools, and work instructions.
• Submit proposed designs, specifications, process changes, and engineering releases for approval; elevate safety determinations, validation approvals, and quality dispositions to the supervising engineer and authorized functions rather than approving them independently.
• Apply required safe work practices, including lockout/tagout and appropriate personal protective equipment; identify hazards, stop unsafe work, and perform tasks within your training, qualifications, and authorization.

Basic Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree or diploma in mechanical engineering technology, manufacturing engineering technology, mechatronics, electromechanical technology, automation, or a related technical field.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience supporting manufacturing development, prototypes, tooling, equipment, automation, or test systems.
• Working knowledge of mathematics, physical principles, manufacturing processes, mechanical systems, and measurement methods relevant to technical development work.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical and electrical schematics, technical procedures, and equipment documentation.
• Ability to assemble, configure, measure, test, and troubleshoot technical hardware using appropriate tools and instruments.
• Ability to use CAD and technical documentation tools to prepare or update models, drawings, BOMs, or comparable engineering-support records.
• Ability to analyze technical data and develop or maintain scripts, data-collection tools, or similar manufacturing-support utilities under engineering direction.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document work accurately, explain technical findings, and maintain traceable records.
• Sound technical judgment, an understanding of when engineering review is required, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced factory environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting hardware from prototype development through manufacturing trials and production implementation.
• Experience with machining, fabrication, mechanical assembly, tooling, fluid systems, electromechanical equipment, or automated manufacturing systems.
• Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), sensors, data acquisition, industrial communications, or test instrumentation.
• Proficiency with Python, SQL, spreadsheets, statistical analysis, visualization tools, or comparable software used to support manufacturing and test operations.
• Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), metrology, statistical process control, measurement system analysis, design of experiments, or structured root-cause analysis.
• Experience working with controlled CAD, product lifecycle management (PLM), manufacturing execution system (MES), or quality records.
• Experience in nuclear, aerospace, automotive, or another manufacturing environment with formal configuration control, traceability, and quality requirements.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Comfortable working on the factory floor, in laboratories, and around active fabrication, assembly, inspection, and test operations.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, and access hardware or tooling safely as needed.
• Ability and willingness to use required personal protective equipment and work in environments with elevated noise, heat, fumes, and moving equipment.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to supplier facilities, test sites, and Aalo's reactor site in Idaho.
• Essential functions may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
