Job summary

Axillon Aerospace, Inc. is seeking a Manufacturing Technician to perform diverse composite fabrication tasks, including layup, curing, bonding, and finishing. You will work with prepregs, uni‑tape, SMC/BMC and dry materials, following precise instructions and maintaining production records.

The role requires 3–5 years in manufacturing or composite fabrication, strong manual skills, and the ability to work overtime when needed. A 9/80 schedule applies, with compensation based on experience.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing, assembly, layup or composite fabrication; aerospace experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Layup and cure composite parts using prepreg, uni‑tape, SMC, BMC and dry materials.
  • Assemble, demold, bond components; finish by filling, sanding, grinding and cleaning.
  • Use hand and power tools to perform production operations; follow work instructions and travelers.
  • Log production records and material traceability; ensure material shelf‑life and out‑time compliance.
  • Identify root causes with team to implement corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Maintain tools, molds, machines and cleanliness of production areas.
  • Support flow of parts between operations and locations; assist with continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Summary

The successful Manufacturing Technician performs a variety of manufacturing processes such as pre‑stacking, kitting, presses, molding, layup, noodles and deflashing associated with the fabrication of aerospace composite materials in connection with production contracts. Operations vary in complexity and difficulty requiring differential compensation based on experience and mastery of techniques and processes. Mastery of progressive skills typically involves cross‑training and certification/sign‑off from a qualified trainer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Layup and cure composite parts using prepreg fabric, uni‑tape, SMC, BMC and dry materials.
  • Assemble, demold, and bond components and parts. Prepare parts and perform bonding and finishing by filling, sanding, grinding, and cleaning. Fit components by cutting, deburring, trimming and hand‑working materials.
  • Use hand and power tools, measurement devices and equipment to perform production operations.
  • Follow written instructions, work instructions, travelers and procedures when producing hardware.
  • Fill out production records, travelers and logs as work is completed. Log and record material traceability information on travelers. Stamp and date operations complete on travelers when the work performed satisfies all documented quality requirements.
  • Ensure that all material used in deliverable products is within its shelf‑life and allowable out‑time. Identify expired material and complete applicable non‑conformance reports.
  • Work with the team Lead, Value Stream Manager, and/or project Engineer to identify root causes and corrective actions required to fix and prevent discrepancies.
  • Maintain and care for tools, molds, machines and equipment.
  • Maintain the order and cleanliness of production work areas, ensuring that all tools, materials and supplies are returned to their designated locations at the end of each shift.
  • Facilitate the flow of production parts to and from other manufacturing operations and locations. Deliver parts and materials to the next operation.
  • Participate in and contribute to process improvement, lean manufacturing and other initiatives. Recommend process improvements to the Lead, Value Stream Manager, Manufacturing Operations Manager or Manager of Continuous Improvement.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience
  • Must have 3–5 years of experience working in manufacturing, assembly, layup or composite fabrication. Aerospace experience preferred.
Skills
  • Must be able to lift, hold and carry up to 40 pounds unaided and be able to perform the necessary physical requirements of the job.
  • Must be able to use various production hand tools.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when required.
  • PC proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
  • PC proficiency in sending and writing emails using Outlook or equivalent preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Organized and self‑motivated.
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple duties, set priorities and follow tasks through completion.
  • Capable of working in an environment in which demands and priorities change.
  • 9/80 Workweek Schedule.
  • Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California. Compensation is based on variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, and location as well as market and business considerations. Pay Range: $23.00/hour – $28.00/hour.
