Job summary

Veeco Instruments Inc. in Somerset, NJ, is seeking a Manufacturing Technician to build and test subsystems, working with Engineering to troubleshoot and resolve issues through the assembly process.

You will prepare, assemble, and inspect components, and perform testing of process equipment, tooling, fixtures, and devices. You will read blueprints, inspect parts, measure tolerances, and operate automation equipment while ensuring safety and quality, with overtime as needed and a 40 lb lift

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2+ years hands-on experience building and testing complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience with high-vacuum semiconductor hardware and manufacturing practices.
• Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP system.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and process instructions to assemble complex subsystems.
• Inspect, test, and adjust units to meet specifications and tolerances.
• Assemble parts, align units, and connect cables and wiring.
• Measure parts with micrometers, calipers, and verniers.

OVERVIEW

The AI data centers reshaping modern computing depend on advanced chips built with ultra-precise thin-film coatings—coatings produced on Veeco’s Spector ion-beam deposition systems. As demand for these systems continues to grow, Veeco is expanding its Somerset test floor to increase production while maintaining the highest standards of quality.

As a Manufacturing Technician, you will build and test complete subsystems and subassemblies, working closely with Engineering to troubleshoot and resolve issues throughout the build process. You will independently prepare, assemble, and inspect components, performing all functions of the assembly process—from picking and preparing inventory to the final assembly and testing of process equipment, tooling, fixtures, and devices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Read blueprints, process instructions, schematics, mechanical drawings, pictures, and other diagrams to assemble complex assemblies and subassemblies.
• Inspect, test, and adjust completed units to ensure that units meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.
• Assemble parts or units, and position, align, and fasten units to assemblies, subassemblies, or frames, using hand tools and power tools.
• Position, align and adjust parts for proper fit and assembly. Connect cables, tubes, and wiring, according to specifications. Disassemble units to replace parts or to crate them for shipping.
• Measure parts to determine tolerances, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and verniers.
• Drill, tap, ream, countersink, and spot-face bolt holes in parts, using drill presses and portable power drills. File, lap, and buff parts to fit, using hand and power tools.
• Operate or tend automated assembling equipment, such as robotics and fixed automation equipment. Operate small cranes to transport or position large parts.
• Conduct tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
• Monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
• Troubleshoot and determine causes of operating errors and course of action to correct.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed, troubleshooting issues, and basic repairs on equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED (General Educational Development credential).

Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Experience with high-vacuum semiconductor hardware and manufacturing practices, highly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with high-voltage and high-power systems, including the safety practices theyrequire, highly preferred.
• Cleanroom experience preferred.
• Must be computer literate in MS Word and Excel
• Familiarity with SAP, or similar ERP system.
• Ability to be hands-on and get the job done on schedule.
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• The role requires strong hand–eye coordination, steady hand control, good grip strength, fine motor skills for precise adjustments, and the ability to handle tools accurately in confined or awkward positions.
• Ability to lift 40 lbs.
• Ability to work overtime.

Salary and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $45,460—$57,582, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
