Job Overview

TE Connectivity is a leading provider of advanced automotive connectivity solutions, supporting virtually every electronic function within modern vehicles—from alternative power systems to infotainment and sensor technologies. Our products operate in demanding environments where precision, reliability, and quality are essential. Technician IV is an advanced technical position responsible for complex machining, tooling, and precision manufacturing activities, with a strong emphasis on Wire EDM programming, setup, process development, and operation. This position requires a highly skilled technician capable of independently developing machining solutions for complex components, tooling, dies, inserts, and precision components with demanding dimensional and geometric requirements. Technician IV will work closely with Tool Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and other technical personnel to develop and execute machining processes from engineering drawings and 3D models through completed, inspected components. The individual will be expected to troubleshoot complex machining challenges, optimize processes, and provide technical guidance to other technicians and machinists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program, set up, operate, and troubleshoot Wire EDM equipment for complex tooling and precision components.
  • Independently develop Wire EDM processes from engineering drawings, CAD models, process documentation, and tooling requirements.
  • Develop machining strategies for complex profiles, tight-tolerance features, intricate geometries, small openings, hardened materials, and difficult-to-machine components.
  • Perform multi-pass and precision skim-cut operations to achieve required dimensional, geometric, and surface-finish requirements.
  • Determine appropriate wire selection, cutting conditions, flushing parameters, workpiece setup, offsets, and machining sequences.
  • Optimize Wire EDM programs and processes to improve dimensional accuracy, surface finish, cycle time, and overall process reliability.
  • Troubleshoot Wire EDM problems involving wire breaks, flushing, taper, accuracy, surface finish, machine conditions, and material-related issues.
  • Identify and correct process-related causes of dimensional variation and machining defects.
  • Utilize CAD/CAM software and machine-specific programming systems to generate and modify Wire EDM programs.
  • Verify programs, work offsets, cutting conditions, and machine setup prior to machining.
  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections and make appropriate program or process adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of programs, setup information, tooling requirements, and process changes
Engineering & Technical Support
  • Work directly with Tool Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and other engineering functions to understand part functionality, tooling requirements, and assembly conditions.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, technical specifications, process sheets, CAD models, and GD&T requirements.
  • Provide technical input during the development of new tooling and manufacturing processes.
  • Assist engineering with determining manufacturing feasibility, process capability, and appropriate machining methods.
  • Troubleshoot complex tooling and machining issues and develop effective corrective actions.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support prototype, development, production, and tooling repair requirements.
  • Recommend changes to machining processes, tooling designs, programs, or manufacturing methods to improve quality, efficiency, and repeatability.
What Your Background Should Look Like
  • High school diploma with a minimum of 5 years of advanced machining, toolmaking, EDM, or related manufacturing experience, or an Associate's degree in Machining Technology with significant relevant experience.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Wire EDM setup, programming, and operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop Wire EDM processes from engineering drawings and/or 3D CAD models.
  • Strong experience machining complex geometries and components to tight tolerances.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, including GD&T.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with precision measurement equipment.
  • Experience machining hardened tool steels and other difficult-to-machine materials.
  • Experience with milling, turning, surface grinding, and/or profile grinding.
  • Experience with Sinker EDM and related EDM processes.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software and CNC/EDM programming.
