Primetals Technologies USA, LLC in Sutton, MA is seeking a senior Grinding Machinist. You will independently set up and run CNC OD/ID cylindrical grinders producing high-precision components for production equipment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of grinding machining experience, including CNC OD/ID cylindrical grinding.
• Advanced understanding of grinding principles, materials and process dynamics.
• Ability to interpret complex blueprints and GD&T with multiple datums.
• High competency with precision measurement instruments.
• Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Independently set up, load and verify programs and run multi-diameter CNC cylindrical grinders.
• Perform complex grinding operations including finishing and polishing.
• Set up and use workholding for complex geometries (centers, chucks, rests).
• Monitor and verify Ra using profilometers.
• Select, mount and balance grinding wheels; perform wheel dressing and truing.
• Develop, modify and optimize CNC programs with geometry/offset adjustments.
• Interpret blueprints and GD&T and perform in-process and final inspections.
• Train and mentor other operators; drive lean improvements (SMED, 5S, VSM).

What you'll be doing

• Independently set up, load and verify programs, set part zeros, and run multi-diameter CNC cylindrical grinding machines
• Perform complex grinding operations including finishing and polishing
• Set up and use appropriate workholding — centers, chucks, and steady rests — for complex geometries
• Monitor and verify micro-inch surface finishes (Ra) using profilometers
• Select, mount, and balance grinding wheels (aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, or CBN) based on material specifications, and perform wheel dressing and truing
• Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs, and make geometry/thermal offset adjustments to correct for wheel wear and material changes
• Interpret complex blueprints and GD&T with multiple datums, and perform in-process and final inspections
• Train and mentor other operators, and drive process improvements using lean principles (SMED, 5S, value stream mapping)

Machines, controls and software

This role runs on Studer, Danobat, and Campbell CNC OD/ID cylindrical grinders, programmed on Fanuc or OEM programming software, plus manual grinders as needed.

This role pays $27.10–$40.65 per hour, full time, with multiple shifts open.
